At least at the local level!

No less than 5 guys, two brand new trucks with nice trailers.
They've been right there for 45 minutes, watching the one guy weed eat!

I don't see anyone with a clipboard.

They're unsupervised. They could get more done if a supervisor was there.

Most of the people I know whose jobs have little to no inherent value as related to the economy work for the government and are paid far more than they’re worth.

Worse than worthless. At least worthless doesn't cost anything.

That is NOT the way we were taught in gooberment employee school.

Supervisor is to be out, clipboard in hand, hard hat on, pencil at the ready to write someone up for not setting the parking brake, holding the weedeater improperly, failing to fill out the pre work safety check out sheet, having an empty Igloo water jug on the back of the truck, etc.

Notice I said "pencil at the ready", not writing.

Appearances must be upheld when the public drives by. Under no circumstances are violations actually to be recorded as that would require even more paperwork.

Friend of mine in Fort Walton Beach video'd city workers painting parking lot lines at boat ramp near his house , 4-7 of them would get one line painted per hour .
They spent the week out there .
Took his video to City Hall - they couldn't care less what a taxpayer thinks/wants .
LOL! Thirty years of it and you can retire with full benefits. Flame away! grin

Where do i sign up?
Three weeks ago I sat at the Amoco gas station in Franklin WV for 5 hours waiting on my first WV building crew and building... more about that story is irrelevant.

While I sat there parked at the corner of 33 and 220 I watched vehicles come and go (for fuel, ham biscuits, lunch, beer and soda et al) and observed no less than $6 million in vehicles come and go (.Gov vehicles, State and County vehicles, BRAND NEW D.O.T. service, bucket and dump trucks etc.). I consider monopoly utility companies to also be an extension of .GOV (i.e. we have NO CHOICE so therefore they count as .GOV... in my estimation).

It was simply amazing... ALL OF THAT GOVERNMENT... all of that waste...

I also observed a few hundred private citizen WV cars and trucks... many beaters, some nicer stuff... but overall well under 10% of the $$$ count I was doing.

Crazy times... crazy crazy times.

Good thing I don't have to pay for this waste... but I do feel sorry for the kids and grandkids that will have to.

Aww out here, plenty of Federal Government stuff with the Forest Service and then BLM....

way out in the forest , you'll see one guy driving around a 4 door, Long bed, 4 WD, diesel pickup ( I have no clue how much those go for these days), and they will stop at 4 or 5 places or camps, to pick up one 33 gallon trash can's contents, replace the bag... and call it a day....

I know other guys who are on standby fire crews, with these Forest Fires we have every summer because of mismanagement by the Forest Service.
For being on standby, they get $900 a day.... an don't get called out that much if at all many seasons... when they do, they make a lot more per day...

knew one guy, who just put the money aside and bought himself a new Dodge 4 door, 1 ton 4WD diesel pickup at the end of the season, paying cash for it.
Don't know what that cost, but I know it ain't cheap....

of course I did the same thing... after I was put on social security, I saved up for 3 months, and went out and spent $6K on a used Toyota Camry....
I know a lady who is a mineral claims officer for the USFS, she has been home, on full pay, for 18 months straight. She is just 1 of about 25 administrative employees in the local ranger district who have been on full pay since the early covid panic. In case you were wondering, no.....they are not working remotely from home on computers. This is just one little district office of 154 National Forests. Beyond welfare, more like the lotto without having to buy a ticket.

The DOT guys around here go out on "roadside trash pickups" when they want to loaf. Then they just park the truck somewhere and read porn.

Been trying to transfer fishing permits from one of my boats to another for 6 weeks now without any luck. Government doesn't give a crap about it's citizens.
Government functions the same way here. The local utility, city owned, never keeps a vehicle longer than two years. Their service trucks travel in pairs. To check the fire hydrants, it takes two service trucks, a fire engine and 12 men

And they all bitch about how hard they have it.

Thank God we’re not getting all the government we’re paying for.

And you are only counting those who ACTUALLY show up for work. Most will figure a way to wiggle out of it. If you dont believe me, randomly dial the number for a few .gov offices. See who is at their desk......

I know a slew of .gov employees ( can't call them 'workers' with a clear conscience...) that will literally schedule meetings in order to put their heads together on the calendar to maximize their time offs....

Typical it's what we see around here all the time. If You see a bunch of (workers) standing around here they either have gov't or rail road plates on.
They’re always hiring. Jump on that gravy train, buys!

A friend worked part time for USF&W locally. One day while "working", the bunch was jawing about retirement plans.

One fellow, more honest than the rest, perhaps, said, "I've been retired for years. I just haven't told them".

public works around here is a hell of a good gig.
Posted By: Valsdad Re: .gov work is a good gig! - 10/21/21
Long ago, in a day and age when I did different things, like construction work, the local electric utility truck would show up on the development we were one, park the big crew truck with the room on the back, and all 4-5 guys would disappear back there. Probably had a card game set up. Sometimes one guy might do some work on one of the hookups. Those fellas were getting paid a whole lot more than Geno in the ditch making grade for my buddy on the backhoe, both of us in the hot sun.

Bastids.

Gave up calling Corp of Engineers to ask why the boat ramp 7 miles from my house [Twin Lakes Pidgeon Boat Ramp] has been closed for years according to locals . Sign says Closed High Water . In no way does the water level being a little high affect backing a boat trailer into the water , we had a drought here all summer long . Guy fishing there from the Bank told me I'd get a ticket if caught and it would be a costly ticket .

Sat on hold many times for 1 1/2 years as long as 30min. many times over 20min. , never has a call been answered , machine w/gay crap then repeat some jive over & over . And every one of them being well paid with benefits/retirement .

Talked to a guy at Twin Lakes gun range retired from Administration Sherriff's Dept. 70 miles from Chicago . He told me him & his wife both knew what they wanted in life when they were 18 years old - that was to be retired as soon as possible . I said you both knew that at 18 yrs. old ? YES - said I don't remember ever having had a thought like that at 18 yrs. old .
He said they moved here to Mountain Home , AR. because the property taxes were so high where he retired from smile .

He was a nice guy but paranoid - said he and a retired law enforcement neighbor both had Infrared equipment and did perimeter scans around there houses at night . ? . Saw a black bear a couple of times .
