If the power grid can not handle a drop in temps to 20* without rolling black outs, how is the power grid going to handle millions of plugged in electric cars every night?

I read an article that said the power grid was one of the biggest drawbacks. According to the article, building the car wasn't too hard, replacing the power grid to handle the load was gonna cost mega bucks.

They’ve torn down two coal fired power plants with in 25 miles of here. I’m sure it’s is the same all over. What to they think we are going to get power from.

Haven't you heard? We're gonna be connected to the new green grid that's powered by windmills and solar farms and we can all live happily ever after in our brave, new, liberal la-la land utopia.

$3.5 Trillion is supposedly going to fix it. We have the best government that money can buy.

Keith, you need to remember the basic rule is that you are not allowed to ask questions based on intelligence, or make intelligent statements that question the elites.

Gen IV nuclear reactors.

There is no plan. Everything that is happening right now is about bringing the top down to the same level as the bottom, destruction of the middle class, til we're unable to afford to consume any longer. Poverty breeds control, but not till after it brings the resistance that enables them to kill off anyone non compliant. The road to serfdom, and were going racing down it with no brakes.

Gotta slightly disagree Jack.
They won't take the very top down.
Except maybe a few loud conservatives.

Switching to all electric cars is undoable with current technology, but there is a helluva lot of profit to be made. Kick back 10% to the politicians and you have now converted tax money into private funds and political donations. The rank and file greenees are too delusional to recognize these facts.

Duke Energy blew up these two coal fired power houses near me too.

Some of you rocket scientist should get together and write them a letter informing them of their errors.
Duke can't have any idea as to what they are doing.

The two-unit coal plant was built in the 1960s and served customers in Florida for more than five decades. The company retired the plant in 2018 when its 1,640-megawatt Citrus Combined Cycle Station, a natural gas plant, came online.

The 200-foot-tall by 125-foot-wide power houses consisted of boilers, steam turbine generators, drums, motors, pumps and pipes – the main equipment needed to generate 915 megawatts of energy for more than 50 years.

Combined-cycle natural gas units generate energy more efficiently and have significantly lower emissions than coal-fired units. Sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and other emissions are expected to drop by 90% compared to the two nearby 1960s-era Crystal River coal-fired units, which were retired in December 2018.

The station will provide about $13 million to the economy annually during the station’s 35-year operational life and is expected to generate $4 million in Citrus County property taxes for 2019.

Wait until they go after the natural gas that is fueling the new combined cycle plant.

By far the biggest drawback will be generating enough electricity without bankrupting the entire country.

No need to wait, they're already on it.

Where are we gonna charge all these cars?
Don’t worry. Our good friends over at democraticunderground have this chit all figured out. grin

They don't have one idea where electric power comes from.

I had to believe, I’ve worked both of them!
