For all you know you could have caught it just last night.

What I’m getting at is it could be an undead mouse, a zombie.

Be careful where you release it eek

Yum.

In certain circles you could put it in a glass box, call it art, and make a ton of money.

It looks to me like you need to check your trapline more often. Think of how long it suffered. grin

It looks like it is one of the last Elephant Rats left.

Bet you never got no rat like this in a trap though. When I took it out I saw a hole on its neck? What the heck? Maybe a fly larvae ate its way out? Gastric ulcer all the way through esophagus to the outside? Clean wound and healed all the way around. I just took pics and set it out for the birds to eat.

Cool, but your skeleton one is cooler!

The hole in the neck could be from a bot fly larva, a warble. I've seen a lot of them on cattle and horses, usually on their backs. However I have caught 2 mice and a cottontail rabbit with these larva attached. After the animal dies the larva emerge and wiggle away. (Hammer usually stops them.)
Posted By: Valsdad Re: Just Found - 10/31/21
Yeah, but like I said the wound was healed up all the way around, or at least appeared to be.
Posted By: srwshooter Re: Just Found - 10/31/21
i'd rather have mice than a cat in my house.
Posted By: ironbender Re: Just Found - 10/31/21
The cat we had was a democrat. It only grabbed the mice in the trap. Would not work for it. 😁

We’ve had a squirrel this year that has had three or four bottfly warbles on his back and shoulders. He also had a healed sore like that just in front of the right shoulder. They look pretty gross but normally don’t cause any permanent injury. Normally by the time squirrel season comes around the larva have burrowed their way out.
We nicknamed the one in our back yard Quasimodo.

Or them dam Camel non-filters.

He needed one of them little voicebox dealios to talk to his buddies. He didn't have one, couldn't ask what the board with the funny spring and a raisin on it was.
