I have rifles I never shoot. A super clean Tikka stainless T3 in 270. Like new . Shot very little. Bore bright & shinny with tall sharp rifling from throat to muzzle. Should I sell this extra rifle? As inflation rages on every item we buy continues to go up in price. Should I sell this rifle or hold for a latter time. Your thoughts.

If you like it, keep it. If not, send it down the road.

Even I wanted to sell it, I wouldn’t want to screw with whiny tire kickers and jew-down type low ballers.

I’d have to be starving

I am going through the same thing now in the classifieds I doubt that I’ll ever subject myself to that ever again

I’ve sold a few in the classifieds here. Never a problem.

Only you can decide how much it will be missed. I doubt it will increase greatly in value. Just my .02

If you don't use it, sell. Then buy something you will actually use.

I have a couple really nice and collectible safe queens that don't get shot I should turn loose so somebody else can enjoy them.

Sell.

The 270 is as gay as Alabama. You don't want that trash in your home, you'll get the diabetus.

Posted By: ltppowell Re: Sell or not sell? - 12/05/21
Lol...I tend to sell stuff when it costs more. I'm dumb that way.

That was a fancy one.

I've had some guns that I thought were too fancy for hunting. This is one I had traded for. The metal was perfect, the wood showed a lot of wear. I refinished the wood, sent it to Errol Case in MO to re-do the high end carving/checkering. That doubled the price of the gun; the checkering cost me around $150, IIRC.

And, I work cheap.

I have three sons that are enthusiast. A proper N-Frame today will be doubtful 30 years from now. Same with others. So no selling here.

I buy and sell guns all the time, special ones stay, others fund new purchases

What about trading?

Do you think trading this fancy Browning after enhancement of the wood for a used Dakota 76, even swap, was Kosher?

I don't know.

It would be better if you had both.

Nothing wrong with selling off bad ideas. Selling good ones almost always leads to regret. Think long and hard. I have a few good ones that I may pass on (before I do), so at least they’ll stay in the family. Keeping them all fed and ready to go takes a lot of time that would be better spent actually shooting some others.

Damn, I thought you and renegade were friends?

the way i look at it, its money in the bank. and if they are anything close to decent guns, they are earning waaaay more interest than a bank. i will sell some here and there to fund other projects or guns. but i agree with slum, its a PITA and people are fuggen dickheads. "i'll meet you saturday morning" "oh sorry, i forgot i had to take my dog to the vet".

I don’t have unlimited resources, try to keep my equity in guns I’m using. Safes are expensive snd I’m not a hoarder. The Browning was at about half value due to the wood. I knew I could make some money fixing the stock, which I did. Never bought it as a keeper. It was a means, not an end.

And, I didn’t mention that the Dakota was a .270 for obvious reasons. Ha!

But, traded it even for an Ed Brown Damara .300 Win Mag, which is a keeper. So swapping and enhancing value to get to a desirable end point is worth the effort.
