Tonight we are having Taco Soup! It makes life better having a wife that can cook!
Posted By: SandBilly Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
Some things, some I do.

She’s heavy handed on the salt, tho.

yes, but too lazy to most of the time.

She' s half Italian and grew up with a mom that was a great cook. She also went to culinary school and is a trained pastry chef. Between the two of us cooking, we eat pretty well.
Posted By: JTrapper73 Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
With myself and four boys, yes.
The poor thing hasn’t had much choice.
Posted By: Riverc Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
She's a better cook than me...But I do all the grilling
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
Yes. She is a good cook.

She is a better baker though.
Posted By: gunzo Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
Mine is damn good on most dishes & has served us well.in the 30+ years we've been together.

Since I retired, studied & practiced I've challenged her on a few things. It's been touch & go whether she agrees or not, but I fix some things & she is sill the master at others.

She recently told somebody that I'd eat just about anything she put in front of me. That's true due to the fact that anything she puts in front of me is usually very good. And... don't mess with the cook unless you're prepared to take their place.

At least she isn't a "multi-tasker" when she cooks. The boys and I just came to consider charcoal good for the digestion.

But when she pays attention, YES, SHE CAN!

My mother was an outstanding cook- nothing too fancy. good sound every day food that was delicious. She had 10 kids to feed.

My Dad said she almost killed him the first year they were married, but she was a quick study. smile
Posted By: dale06 Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
She’s an outstanding cook. Tries lots of different things. She has 100s of cook books and reads them a lot looking for interesting things to cook.
Good deal OP. I’ve only heard of taco soup because a coworker brought it into work once, It’s the bomb! And a long list of ingredients from what I recall.

Posted By: ironbender Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
Mine can. We also have a taco soup that’s good.

She is more creative cooking than I am, but we take turns.

I do all the grilling though!!

My little city mouse couldn’t cook a lick when we got married in ‘09. Worked full time until #2 came along in 2015. Been home with the kids ever since. Started rattling pans in 2016 and could dang near chef at a restaurant at this point. She’s got about 30 meals in the rotation that are dynamite. Bakes a couple loaves of bread a week and this past Christmas added Christollen to her repertoire. Only bad thing is she loves her some Le Creuset to cook in so it’s been a little pricey at times setting her up.

I laugh when the outlaws come to town and wife puts on a feast and the m-in-law pipes up about how much of the wife’s skills come from her and her side. She can barely boil water and her last contribution (2015 or 16) gave everybody food poisoning. I tell her to zip it before someone drops a house on her too. 🧙‍♀️
No ,I am. Not sure she can find the stove
Better than I deserve.

In all things.

She can walk in to any kitchen, take whatever's available and end up with something that'll make you smile.

Of course, it wasn't always that way. During our first year together, we ate a lot of Old Testament food (burnt offerings).
Posted By: Spud Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
Bison meatloaf with a layer of cheddar and strips of bacon tonite...oh yeah. Best fried chicken I ever ate...yes she can cook.
Posted By: gregintenn Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
Sure, mine is a good cook. She made us a shrimp boil tonight.

I do most of the cooking now. I'm retired and she's still working.

For reasons I can't explain, "taco Soup" absolutely sounds like gag material to me. My wife can cook. She has never tabled any dish that I said NO to. But, I draw the line at "Taco Soup". I have never been that hungry.

So am I...wife uses Kosher salt on anything she’s preparing. Once it’s done and served, I’m grabbing the table salt and dusting it again.

You obviously have never tried it. It's a lot like chili. Sounds like you need to get laid instead of having a bowl of soup!! LOL
Yes, but I do most of the cooking.

That sounds like me! My wife always says taste it before you season it as I'm putting on the salt! I'm a salt aholic!

Oh, I like salt. More than most but she’s worse than me. I just dumped a crap load of seasoning to make again tomorrow.

She cooked for herself and family from the time she was a young kid.
Had to cook to eat. They ate very bland. And technique was lacking.

We enjoy cooking and experimenting.

A niece often said, "I love ghoing to their house, you never know what
You might eat. But it's always good."

Wife’s a helluva baker. Certain dishes she a great cook.
I’m better though. Worked kitchens as a second job to construction, nights and weekends for a couple years when I was young. Worked with fine real deal chefs/sous chefs in The Keys. CIA graduates. Learned a lot and partied even more. You want to party, hook up with some kitchen staff at a high end restaurant.

Posted By: Savage_Hunter Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
when i married her, she couldn't even cook Lipton cup o soup.
She was real purty to look at though.
I could cook well when we met, though I was only 20.
Over the years I learned to cook international and multi-cultural foods.
Everything I learned to cook, she learned from me and I have to find new cooking styles to impress her and make me feel important.

So, yeah, she's a great cook and still really purty at 58.
When we are entertaining, we cook together.

My wife is a great cook and even a better baker. My Mom was a wonderful cook and for my 30th birthday she gave me a handwritten cook book of all of the recipes she used when I was growing up. My wife and my Mom were very close (like mother and daughter) and much cooking knowledge was passed down from mother to daughter. I am in charge of making salads.

Said once or the 5th time she was gonna leave me. I'd gotten to the point I was ready & just looked at he & said; before ya go go old ya teach me how to make good sausage gravy?

She stayed, but I learned, as I was serious. But she insist on fixing it as she says hers is better than mine. I try not to say a freakin word.

Mine is a very good cook and makes a great taco soup. Her chicken with home made noodles is to die for. I do the grilling. Years ago I was running late getting home from work and I called her and asked her to fire up the grill. Damn near blew the lid off the Weber! Grilling is my job.
Posted By: shaman Re: Can Your Wife Cook? - 01/09/22
KYHillChick is a great cook. She made Chicken Tika Masala for lunch yesterday.

Her pecan and pumpkin pies are the best the family has ever had. She makes those along with our traditional turkey dinners for Thanksgiving and roast beef for Christmas.

One of her specialties is Elizabethan cooking and her signature dish is Henry VIII's favorite venison roast. An Elizabethan dinner is comprised of a gawdawful number of courses and each one has to be served just so. If you ever get a chance to go to one, I would recommend it. It's totally alien to most folks' modern tastes, but it's great.

Mine doesn't/can't/won't.

I don't mind doing the cooking... It insures I always have something to eat that I like. smile

Yes, Quite well

My wife is first generation out of Poland/Russia. Her family never went out to eat. Every day her father was at work and her mother was in the kitchen cooking up traditional eastern blok dinners.

My wife was extremely close to her mother,....followed her around everywhere.

My wife's mother never taught her to cook. She just watched and learned. In many ways my wife was a spoiled child. She was born late and treated like a little princess by her older mother and father.

I didn't expect her to be much of a cook,....I didn't really care. I'm not much of a foody. But she surprised me.

I don't often ask. But when I do, she'll fix up a big table full of good Slavic eats.

My favorite is her cabbage rolls. But she also can fix up a championship dish of scalloped potatoes. She also makes up a fantastic, genuine, from scratch cheesecake.

Also,...I grow tomatoes and boil them down to sauce. She worked up a chili recipe using my tomato source and it's outstanding.

I usually put on 2 or 3 pounds every time she makes up a batch.

There's some in there now. It's about all I've eaten for the past 3 days.

I'm going to have to fast for a few days once it's gone.

Yes, and well. She excels in Southwest style cooking. Problem is it's Southwest Minnesota style. Everything is a variation of hamburger and tomato hotdish. All kidding aside, she's a great cook, and there's always homemade soup around at a minimum. It was chicken noodle last week. I feed successfully.

Mine is simply amazing.

She has her own German cooking channel on YouTube and she hosts online classes for university courses as well as selling Master Classes. In the mood for German food?

She has published 4 books and can put together a great dish out of seemingly nothing. Last night (as a simple example) she devised an Asian stir fry off the top of her head.

In November, she created a low carb/ high fat diet to reverse Type 2 diabetes- it worked for me in 2 months with zero insulin or Metformin. It was tasty and I was never hungry between meals.

‘True Southern’ food is a gift to you from the groid. Lol. “Yankee garbage food” is derived from European influences. In the best case scenarios, French influence touches the southern culinary palate. Again, heavily melded with groid. Lol.
