Tried to do some banking today - all Capital Ones in my area are shut down. Pre recorded message states they are being "proactive" with regard to the virus.

They can prevent access to your $ at any time.

They either want to save money, and/or they are short staffed.

The bank is never wrong

Good to keep cash on hand.

SERIOUSLY? There used to be some law about how a bank couldn't be closed for 3 days in a row.

Did the ATM work?

To OP are they closed altogether or are lobbies closed with drive thru access?

Proactive with regard to Omicron is like being proactive with regard to cold season…

ATM was open that I could tell.

Same here. As long as their app and atm work, I may never go in one again.

They could just as easily close the lobby.

Went to three of them, all said "insufficient funds"
Guess they can't find help to refill the machines.

That’s been happening to here a lot due to need tagging issues and the attendant security concerns that financial institutions have.

Huntaholic: Indeed you are close to being correct - Federally Insured Banks are NOT allowed to be closed FOR MORE than 3 days in a row.
But seeing January 17th is martin luther king day there may be a "violation" of Federal banking laws then?
Three days in a row closed okay - 4 days in a row closed NOT okay - at least it used to be that way when the United States of America was a mostly law abiding country.
Anymore who thefuck knows?
Sad.

If you have a cell phone, you don't need the bank to be open anymore.

My wife worked as a teller for several years circa 1980. Even in those days of prehistory, banks enjoyed three day weekends for Monday holidays, just as they do today.

The requirement was that the bank be open four business days each week.

Of course, today, with internet banking, the bank is open 24 hrs/day and 7days/week.

Understaffed. Can’t find anyone to work.

I got an email the other day from PNC stating there may be some branch closings in the future.

I’m going to make a deposit today, we’ll see how it goes.

If a bank is closed abnormally and you are forced to use an ATM do they wave any fees?
I have never done ATM or online banking, asking for myself?

Banks don’t typically charge to use their own ATMs only those of other institutions. Online banking is free; been a long time since they’ve charged for that.

They’re just like other industries; they’re mechanizing because it’s less expensive than paying people.

You’re absolutely right I apologize I read that question as “more” than 3 days in a row.

They're all open here in spite of a recent rash of covid.
I was in an eye doctors office yesterday. They have 4 doctors and a whole crowd of other staff. The staff was all wearing masks but they've dropped the requirement for patients. There was a dozen people in the waiting room and not a mask in the crowd.
