16ft smokercraft, lodge edition. 40 Yami tiller. Had to yank it out of the snow today. Pretty cool little boat.
Nice boat . You’re not planning to paint it, what?
What will be it’s primary purpose?
The Yamaha a 4 stroke? I’m perpetually searching for specific aluminum v bottom boats and find the used market to be flat out insane. Curious how you did on that purchase?

Needed a boat that was ez to tow on nasty roads to get to some remote spots. Big boats is a no go
4 stroke. It should run like a raped ape.

I gave 5k for it. I need it next week. Not sure if I overpaid or not but I need it.
That with a 40? That should come out of the water nice. That’s a killer crabbing/fishing boat in the upper Chesapeake.
Motor itself might be worth 5000. Looks like a great fishing boat
I have a 15 foot Lund with a 30 Mercury 4 stroke for the same purpose. A light aluminum boat is awesome for remote unimproved launches. I launched mine out of a beach once.
I am still a Mercury guy, but I am gradually learning that Yamaha is a better engine. I live on the big water. I know a lot of people who use Yamahas hard, and love the durability.
Cooler, than cool! Please wear a PFD, on the water.

I don’t think you overpaid. I bought an 18’ aluminum w 50 hp Yamaha for just a bit more than that last year.
How many gut shot hogs can you fit in that bitch?
Sounds like you did pretty good. Boat prices are crazy right now down in Florida where I'm at.
Not bad enjoy and catch some fish.

I bleed mercs. I have (5) 150s. I am a big fan of the merc kickers too.

Haha, trick question. The gut shot ones run off so the answer is none.

Lol!!!
Nice setup, I can see it going along the shore, glassing for black bear! Fishing and crabbing, ya nice setup!
The trailer seems a bonus. Not 'salty' at all seemingly...
Did it have sonar with it?

It was a rental boar here on POW. I am sure it’s seen it’s share of dead bears.

They rent boats that let people who rent a boat go on the ocean? Sounds like a liability nightmare.
Not that everyone who rents a boat is incapable of using it wisely. I sometimes rent a boat rather than tow one around. But there are people who should not use a boat on a body of water too big to jump across, I would not want to rent them a boat on the ocean.

As far as I know the body count is 0 for rental boats in my area.

I suppose if you can't find them you don't have to count them
You can’t touch a boat like that for $5k here, especially with the motor.
you did just fine, congrats!
Congratulations!
Hope to see it full of treasure in a few weeks...
That’s a great fishing boat. Fishes bigger than you’d think.
Right now outboards new or used are about non-existent same with boats and trailers, you did great in this market.
I think you did pretty good. What are ya targeting in January?
Good deal. Should move at a decent pace too.

Running inspectors out to remote properties.

They have a new 40 tiller here in town. $6300. Stuff is expensive these days.
Congrats, I think you made out really good. Enjoy!

I guess that's more humane than a gut shot.

Riiiiiight . . . late season beach hunting for deer. Got some good snow action in November down your way, no?

It was ok. Fair amount of bucks. Big fan of the bigger boats and park rafts for that duty.
i m not perfect poems
Trapping lines and late season hunts!
Fair price imo.
Go kill stuff!
Pretty hard to go wrong there.
Good deal. You were running pretty low on boats.
hard to go wrong with a v bottom boat with a yamaha motor
Looks like a dandy boat!
Enjoy!
I fished Long Island Sound for years with a 16 foot Smokercraft and a 25 hp Mercury. My buddy labeled it the aluminum Boston Whaler. Handled much bigger than its size.
I am still a Mercury guy, but I am gradually learning that Yamaha is a better engine. I live on the big water. I know a lot of people who use Yamahas hard, and love the durability.
Depending on what you have and when you got it, there may not be much if any difference. Mercury has a long history with the Japanese makers. They first brought Japanese outboards to the U.S. with their "Mariner" line back in the day, probably made by one of the usual suspects....Yamaha or Tohatsu. In order to meet demand for small to mid sized outboards in the U.S., Mercury has bought Yamaha and Tohatsu complete units or power heads and sold them under their brand and may and or probably still does. There is virtually zero non commercial demand for outboards in Japan so its a win-win for them.
Back in the day when Bombardier bought out OMC, for a few years they sold Suzuki 4 stroke outboards under the Johnson brand before they phased it out.
All of this is subject to change based on who makes a deal with who. If I were in need of a new outboard I'd shop totally on price, maybe dealer. They are all good. Around here about all the commercial crabbers use Suzuki, likely because they are cheaper than the others.

The newer mercs are top shelf. Older ones are black anchors.

Calvin too. Looks like a heck of a deal.
Nice boat... very good value... especially up there. +1 Congratulations!

No, and can’t recall the boat name right now.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Thousands. I am a little past that point. Grin
Wife: Where are we going to put it?
Me: it’ll fit
That's what a fishing boat is supposed to look like!
Cool, a third charter boat.
If it serves a need and you were OK with the price, sounds reasonable to me. Good boats are in high demand and cost a premium. I had an 18' Maycraft I bought 5 years ago for $8,000 with a Yamaha F115 and I-pilot trolling motor. I sold that boat a few months back for $16,000 and all I had added was a $1k leaning post and a used trailer to replace the roller trailer it came with, so maybe $10k all in on my end. Yamahas are excellent motors, very little bad you hear about them except the HPDIs and 350 4 strokes. Your rig looks like a good solid fishing boat with very little to go wrong. Keep her running with non-ethanol and enjoy it!
Looks good Cal, I've always enjoyed small boats you can buy them for less than you lose in depreciation pulling a new one out of the boat dealers lot. Mb
