Watched a documentary on the Muscle Shoals, Alabama Recording Studio where they cut “Sweet Home Alabama” And “Freebird”
It’s free on Amazon Prime right now.
They wanted them to cut “Free Bird” down to a 3 minute song.
Ronny Van Zant said Hell No.
They were in the studio, and Billy Powell, their Roadie, set down and started playing a piano. Nobody in the band knew he was a classical trained Pianist. So they decided to cut that song with his Piano part included.
The rest, of course, is Rock & Roll History!
