Watched a cop pick up the helmet of a young guy who hit the concrete divider of the crosstown expressway here going well over a hundred mph, his bike and body were still on the other side of the divider, his helmet with his head still in it was on the other side.

Lucky that his helmet stayed on

Lots of bikers will wear helmets on the highway but not in town at lower speeds. That's backwards. At high speed you're screwed anyway, helmet or not. Where they save you is in low speed accidents. A head lightly tapping on a cement curb or car door does wonders for the brain cells.
