All the convoy talk got me to thinking about how popular CBs were in the '70s, even for non-truckers. My Dad had one in his van and we used to listen to and communicate with truckers while on the interstate, especially on road trips. Even though I was a kid, I had my own "handle", Bionic Bullfrog. What was yours?
Kentucky Gambler Merle Haggert was a favorite of mine
Whippoorwill. Of course, I was 7 then.

I was driving a 18 wheeler back then and had a cb before they got so popular. I was the Houndawg. In about a year, two at the most, they got so popular, it wasn't worth having.
Beetle,
I had a cb when I was younger that my grandpa gave me once he retired from trucking. Never had a handle. I just listened.
I guess I could go with Rusty Shackleford now...

My dad was Red Ryder because ( I think ) of the lever action bb guns in the late 40's. (That would be about 70 years ago ).

And some where, in a box, I still have my old CB radio.....
Cherokee's Kid - I can't remember who I talked with today, but I still remember the license number as well, some 40 years later.
I was just a kid in the 60s and in HS and college in the early 70s but my Grandpappy was the Blue Flash. I sat and listened to him on that radio for ten years before I went off to college ... I still remember his call sign (license number) fifty years later. He talked to every trucker coming along I-20, I-26 (when they finally got it finished) and I-95 every now and then.
The last time I picked up a CB mic was in 1980. I was licensed as KBHN 8945. That was the only "handle" I ever used.
I never had a CB but my brothers was "Midnight Toker".

Montana Kid. I had just come back from Montana trying to find a job but thinning Government tracks of land in the mountains was all I could find. Working all day(12-14hrs) and spending an hour each way for $20 bucks a day just didn't cut it. I loved the mountains but figured I couldn't afford the winters when we couldn't work so I wondered from Noxon to Whitefish looking for anything I could find there. Nothing there for immigrants from other stares. So I headed back to Michigan where I had a base of folks. Found a job in Michigan on the way home from the train station. My Dad was into CB's at the time and gave me the handle much to my dismay!
I just remembered the handle of a friend of mine - he was a milk tester for a couple of creameries and his handle was "Cream Can Sniffer"...
Midnight rider, ain't gonna let em catch me lord.
I worked in a bar in 72 that had CBers come in every Thursday night.
They called me "the bartender".
Who horsed around on the CB?
Like told stories or pulled pranks?
Lets hear about it.
I did a lot of horseplay just a few years back, not anything like calling names or being a radio rambo.
????????????
I grew up in Canada, my dad's handle was 'millermeter'.
Mine was "Horny Devil."
Paul B.
My handle was Tranquil Warrior KBIH4610.
SCGunnut: I was (and still am - even though I no longer have a C.B. radio) "The Ramblin Rockchuck"!
