Do you think you can tell the difference in cartridge or caliber based on the wound?
I thought it might be fun to post some pics to illustrate how much bullet construction effects performance.
Here's my last one. What do you think?

Not really, but the second image is funny as hell relatively.
Probably not a Barnes and probably not real slow.
Same round. Rio7
257 Weatherby? And a ballistic tip?
I seriously don’t know.
I would guess some type of frangible design like a TMK or Berger with just-right SD and velocity at impact.
Dun-no... But it reminds me of some photos i've seen on Nathan Fosters Ballisticstudies.com website... He uses the Hornady 162 gn A-max (now called ELD-M) @ 2600 fps out of a 7x57 or 7mm-08 to get devastating DRT wounds... I guess the sierra 160 TMK works similar... Almost decapitating game on neck shots...
Gotta be some sort of Creedmoor...
Who knows? I sure can't tell. I've seen stuff like that from 12 ga. slugs, but also from 444 Marlins. A lot depends on the range, velocity, shot angle, etc.
Gotta be some sort of Creedmoor...
Nawwww....
It woulda had lasar like burns entrance and exit
😄😄😄
.243 100gr win power point outta a browning bar with a carry worn receiver.
Not a bullet I would use again on a critter I wanted to butcher and eat
That’s what I would say too.
Rage mechanical broadhead
Exit wound from a 180gr accubomb out of a 300 ultra mag @300 yards.
So mine was taken with a .223 using 77gr TMK at about 90 yards.
So does Esteban325 and i win a prize ur sump'in for mentioning the TMK in our post... lol
So on Rio's I'm thinking. 257 Weatherby and 110gr Accubonds.
Glad to see there were no pictures of your mother-in-law!
Crossbow exit wound with a mechanical broadhead
How about this one...?
Take a guess?? Rio7
Judging by hole size and condition of the meat, it was big, not real fast, and expansive.
I've seen similar from muzzleloaders shooting sabots.
Big holes, little destruction of what's left. Cleans up nice, less loss than expected.
Rio7's photo looks more high velocity.
The meat looks shellshocked and slimy.
Just the opposite of the OP's.
The damage will extend into what's left.
Lotta meat trimming, bunch of junk to throw away.
I know Rio says the same round.
I believe that, but from past experience that was my guess.
Take a guess?? Rio7
22-250 or a 243
That’s what I would say too.

22-250 pushing a 40gr vmax out of a remington 700 you borrowed from your uncle Harry.
Bobcat by 270 Win 130gr SST.
Wbyfan = 300 Wby, 180 gr Nosler BT.
I have no clue about the one in the OP's picture, but offer a short story of less than a 1000 words to substitute for a picture that i don't have. Some years ago I was set up on a deer stand in Halifax NC, overlooking a massive soybean field. Since the shot was going to be between 400 and 600 yards for sure I was carrying a 300WM, Just before dark a nice deer popped up at my feet, within 15 yards and I lit it up with a 150 grainer. Devastation. Looked like I'd lobbed a hand grenade.
Cleaned up nice though, and the rest of it was tasty!
Doe Whitetail, 139 gr. Scenar , about 150 yards, 6.5 Creed
Bobcat, 110 A-Tip little over 200 yards walking straight away down a sand road .243 Rio7
Try this one?? notice the left shoulder is gone. Rio7
I've shot a few coyotes ,150yds w/243Win and 85TSX @ 3200 that looked like the disemboweled feline. Shots were called-in coyotes, quartering to with bullets exiting the "paunch" behind the ribs and ahead of the rear leg. Not frangible, not speed-demon fast, and not tip-toes close, but, a paunch exit usually results in a huge exit wound that mades extrails out of entrails.

Had to be the 6.5 creedless traveling at Mach speed at a distance of roughly 972 yards, scope was set on 10x and your hands was cold so you flinched because the temperature was in the low 20’s.
How about this one...?
17 hmr with a 17gr vmax at 33.5 yards.
This is from a bull elk. On and off side scapulas

I was deer hunting once and came across a coyote that had a hole on one side of its chest that I thought at the time I could stick my arm through and not get it bloody. What impressed me most is that it ran 40 or 50 yards after it was hit. Probably running like hell and had momentum. Always wondered what it got hit with…

I had a load for a 45-70 that used the 300 grain Hornandy JHP. The old school ones. At the speed they were going, they were grenades too.
How about this one...?

Distance is close. Was appx 50 yards, but gun and bullet were a 257 Weatherby and 110 AB at 3450.

Out of a 45/70? Or a 458 Winchester Magnum?
RIO7, the Robert Ruark of 24HCF:
My post was with a .223 shooting 77gr TMKs. Shot was about 80 yards or so.
When a cottontail rabbit is shot by a 30-06, I can tell that it wasn't a 22LR.
But was it DRT?
Probably about like that grouse I accidentally used OOBuck on...
I'd guess my Python using .38 loads would be about the same.....
You know, that "over penetration" thing might have some legs after all.
And then there was the time I "headshot" a ptarmigan with a 30-06 at just a few feet, forgetting the scope-height/ bore differential. The head, neck, backskin and one lousy leg just didn't seem worth it.
I don't have any pics but ya'll should see what hammer bullets do when running real fast and light for caliber. The base does not expand at all and it's a flat front. Has so far always gone through (even end to end on medium game). The petals all break off and go every whichaway. No bloodshot meat even right next to the wound and so far DRT every single time. Half a dozen whitetails of no particular note, 2 medium/large black bears, a couple dozen hogs, a handful of yotes and one poor slob beaver I shot in the front leg and all his bones were broke. About an even mix of 22-250 and 25-06 as I use the two interchangeably.
