I flew from Reno to Kansas City and back Tuesday just to meet Emily and bring her home. My great friend, toltecgriz , got her sister, Teeter, and told me there was one puppy left at the breeder's. He sent me a picture, and I was sunk.

My only surviving orange belton Llewellin setter is old Jenny, and she's too old to breed. So, I ponied up money I didn't have and used plastic for a plane ticket and flew to KSC. Dave there picked up Emily when he got Teeter and babysat for me until I could get there.

Emily is a great pup. She is big, strong, alert, assertive, bold, loving, and uses her nose with her head held proudly. She's always on the move with a purpose, so she's hard to photograph with my cell phone.

She's a big girl at 8 1/2 weeks.

It didn't take long for her to settle in.

When I was younger, dad had a similarly colored English setter named Chip. Plan was for birds but Chip was killed by a car before he even got started. Replaced with a black/white named Katie. Then dad moved onto labs for pheasants.

As I'm starting my own bird hunting career this year - I know a dog is in the future and damn if its hard to not want a setter for sure.

Again - she's a doll.

Her mom is a field trial champion and competed last weekend and will again next weekend. This breeder sure has some excellent dogs. I'll pm you her contact info if you wish. She's in Missouri.

Emily is a great pup and will be a wonderful friend, and companion. In the brief 50 hours I spent with her, I found no flaws. Full speed ahead.

Great looking pup.Our rescue lab is 10 and I fear she won't make it to14. We would sure like a new pup, but being 79m years old we really don't want something that will outlive us.I have had to take care of few dogs that lost their owners and I think it hurts them as much as when we humans lose our dog.

I hear you, pal, and there is truth in your concerns. I think one needs to plan ahead. Can't imagine doing without. It might not be easy.

Love your pup...lost my ES back in June (almost 15 years old)...it was tough. Really like those orange beltons, too. Wife was ooh-ing and ah-ing...she loves her too!
