Do you make your own mayhaw jelly? Let's hear about it.
Thanks, RS
It’s been many years since I’ve been involved with Mayhaws. I gathered a 48 quart cooler full, using a bateau , a long cane pole (thrashing the limbs), and scooping them from the water with a large minnow net! My ex-wife made the jelly. I think that she just cooked them down, put them into a course woven pillow case , and squeezed the juice into a large pot. Then did a normal canning process.
Mayhaw jelly is my favorite jelly of all….Gooseberry running a very tight second! memtb
It's great jelly.
I'd never had any before, and a member here was nice enough to send some my way.
I think it was the best jelly I'd ever had.
A member here gave me some jelly that he or his wife made - it was very good. The name sounded something like this - although I have never seen the fruit and had not heard about it before.
Maybe he will tell us about it.

Reckon they are staying out of trouble?
Make mayhaw and blueberry jelly here in SW GA

Are the berries about the size of a pea with white looking specks on them? Kind of tart with a slight pucker sensation not near that of a persimmon?
If so I remember eating a lot of them as a kid but I don’t think I have tried the jelly. I bet it’s good tho!

Mayhaw berries.
Thanks, that’s probably what I’m thinking of, but in my mind those seem just a tad bigger then I remember them being.
I think they are pretty sour eating off the tree.
I'm surprised that more members aren't making their own jelly. May be another of those Southern traditions that is fading. My wife used to help her mother make it but doesn't cook it down herself.

Sure do miss the homemade peach and strawberry preserves my Great Grandmother And Grandmother made when I was a kiddo.
Never had any Mayhaw. Wouldn’t have known what they looked like if Barry hadn’t posted a picture of them.
I'm pretty good on trees and things, and I've never even heard of "mayhaw".
I'm from east Texas. I have heard of "mayhaw".
About 5 years ago, my turkey hunting buddy brought me a pint of mayhaw jelly. Awesome stuff Maynard!
My favorite is peach jam followed by blackberry jelly.
Granddaughter and daughter in law still make jelly and preserves. But we’re too far west for Mayhaws.

Lol, Highly unlikely.
I just got another jar of Mayhaw jelly, damn good stuff!
They don't grow here.
Sounds good though.
We make crabapple and choke cherry syrup.

Had choke cherry wine before!
That's gotta count for something...

I think him and Miles are headed home Tuesday.
Mayhaw is my favorite jelly. Haven't seen it around here. My Grandma was from SW Georgia and would go back every year for the family reunion. She'd bring back a case or 2 and give it out. I looked for it once when I was up that way and couldn't find it. I guess it's seasonal?
Truth be told, with all the sugar added and boiled into jelly you could make gym sock juice taste good.
I finally figured out what kind of berry I was trying to remember growing up, It wasn’t a Mayhaw, it was autumn olive. They say they make good jelly too.
Lingonberry for the win, followed closely by pomegranate.
Never had mayhew.

Gawd - I hope not!
And seriously doubt it.
Randy gave "The Warden" some - said to leave me out. He kinda likes her.
