Pretty common. Obliterating a serial number is harder than you think using hand tools. Have recovered a lot of guns where people tried to obliterate the numbers and gave up when it was too much effort. They are fugg ups after all.

Looks like a Glock serial number, just looked at one I have and the B and the K are the same looking Font.

The guy didn't have half a brain in the watermelon so he certainly couldn't navigate a dremel and grinding stone.

Probably a half assed attempt at removing the serial number when he was making his hair brained plan. Renting the Uhaul was genius. Nobody could ever trace or follow that. Lol

Guy was unaware that the slide and barrel are hardened and the nickel in his pocket wouldn't obliterate the serial numbers.

The attempt to erase a S/N is a feeble attempt at not getting caught that stills gets them caught.

If the "perp" is successful at carrying out his crime, a S/N on a gun is non sequitur.
If authorities catch them "pre crime" with a firearm with an altered S/N, the actual origin of the firearm is non sequitur.

This is all about thinking that no S/N may help them get away with a crime.

I have three laying on my desk and the S/N is on all three locations. Barrel, slide, and underside of the frame.

If you want to do it right, drill it.
It can be recovered if ground, the pressing process affects grain structure, which can
reveal the numbers. Don't think I'd want to drill into a chamber though

I'll wager that gun in the OP is going to come back as traceable and a straw purchase resulting in an additional prosecution.

And the alleged shooter's inability to remove it will demonstrate just how GD important S/N's are.

Those are part #'s, serial # is on the frame. Look and tell me they match.

Dumbass never met or heard of Tenifer.....or Melonite. I carried a Glock in a marine environment for 18 years before switching over to my current M&P M2.0. Never could get that thing to take on holster wear or rust in this schitty place. It's basically my house pistol from hibernation time to early summer when the bears start wandering about.
