Anybody know a good place to order some tree tubes from for protecting new 12” seedlings I recently stuck in the ground. If I don’t do it the deer will destroy them. Also, thought maybe some of you with experience may prefer certain tubes over others. I only need a dozen right now so I don’t mind paying a little extra for a good product. If I was buying several hundred I can understand having to watch prices more carefully.

I have planted several hundred on my place using tubes and bamboo sticks from these guys. When I bought them several years ago they had the best prices. Sadly the 250 ponderosa pines I planted pretty much all died off but all of the nanking cherry, nannyberry, aspen and currant bushes have made it. I bought the 5x 30 but the deer will eat everything that comes out the sides or the top. Once they get a couple years old the bucks will beat anything without a basket to death.

I needed to add 5 foot high baskets of 2x4 steel fabric to keep the deer off them. Or I placed a four strand electric fence around them. I now have deer and turkey in my yard everyday.

My problem was with "pocketgophers"
I had six pecan trees I sprouted from the nut. I still have 2 left! 🤬!
Saw one looking sickly one day. Touched it and it fell over! Damned gopher cut it off just below the ground!

I still plant pecans. I put them in a 1/2" hail cloth sleeve 2 foot tall, buried about 18". The nut and sprout are protected. By the time the tree gets big enough, the hail cloth sleeve is long rotted away.

Guy up the road has a "deer" problem too!
He used cattle panels to make a hoop with. Three T posts hold it in place.
The circle is so small, the deer won't jump the panel and it's big enough, deer can't reach the tree.

I use these and they seem to work very well. I just planted 70 sawtooth oak seedlings two months ago and as of today, I have 100% still alive and growing. We are in extreme drought to boot. My trees average 12", tubes are 48" to give them a chance with a high deer population.

The ones like Boise work for us. We only needed a few to protect some plantings. I couldn't find less than about 250 to purchase. We were able to get some from a neighbor. Might check with a logging supply outfit if you have one around.

Four foot high is too short at my place, the deer eat the tops off, I successfully use 5 foot. I agree with the single T-post. The system allows the bottom to swing out of the way of the mower.
