Have a fair number hanging around the homestead. Mostly of the Anole variety, brown and green.

They are of little importance except that they crap on everything. Most know to RUN when they see me, but a few don't. Out on the porch a few minutes ago and a rather large brown anole watched me pull the chair to the pavement edge and sit down about 5' from it. I uttered a few words, waved my arms...not impressed. I stood up to leave and it didn't move. Picked up the chair...nothing. With few other options I farted somewhat loudly. It RAN like the devil was after it.

I don't understand. Anyone have any insights regarding this behavior? The lizard's, not mine, thank you very much.

It's a scout for the raiding party yet to come. It was testing your defenses and resolve.

Well, if you consider the name "anole" and its variants and apply a little creative thinking, understanding falls quickly into place...

Farting aloud is generally the straw that met the camels back.

Odd thought, maybe the poor critter thought I was rocket propelled?

Get an outside cat, they catch and kill all they can. I rather like to watch them and they eat a lot of pest. Did notice through the years that when the Mediterranean geckos showed up the roach problems went away.

Have a Broadhead Skink (not to be confused with a Skank) that lives around my carport- scared my wife a few times til she figured out what it was and not harmful. Big fellow maybe 8 or 10 inches. Ya'll run with that one for a while...Joe

It may not hVe been the SOUND of the fart that drove it off! It thought that’s the biggest skunk 🦨 I’ve ever seen! 😳

Says in the lizard book that those anole are very sensitive to foul odors. Desert lizard territory here and they can be plenteous - but not on our place due to a local Roadrunner. Try one?

For some reason I get strange YouTube feeds... (can't imagine why cool). I just saw this yesterday. Guy has a stroke and gets a chameleon as part of his recovery plan. Fred does not look real no idea how he might respond to farts....

The ones that don't run are either acclimated to people or resorting to their defense mechanism. Still is interpreted as unseen. They know that movement doesn't always mean escape, it can trigger feed response from predators.

They poop on everything because they are eating other things.....that also poop. It's either insects or anoles. Take your pick.
I personally like natural bug zappers. Bats are the best. They keep mosquitoes in check.

Well, maybe if 'ya don't stink, you could get one of those tennis shoe Roadrumers to grab the lizard - or is there more than one?

Remember with anoles, green = brown = green = brown.

What's spooky about Roadrunners?

Can't think of any lizards here, a few salamanders though.

Do have a bit of experience with lot lizzards.
Both the dark and light variety.
Was always afraid of them, never knew what they might do,
What toxin they had, and they are protected.
The Po-Po catch you phuggin around with them, you get arrested.

Had one of these for a pet when I was as young. Sharp teeth and claws, about 4’ long. It ate all the pesky geckos around the house and did not react to my farts.

Only one that seems to exist in this area is the Western fence lizard.

Always wanted a Komodo dragon so I could put up signs around the place.

"To hell with the dog, Beware the Dragon"

would love to see some miscreant climb over a fence and run into Draco as he was attempting to gain access to the goodies through a back window.

Wife won't let me get one. frown
