That's what I'm told I have. I guess I'll ask for any Prayers you kind folks will offer up.

Superficial, you’ll be fine

Get it scraped off and torched and you can resume happiness

Stage “Zero”

In Stage 0 melanoma, the malignant tumor is still confined to the upper layer of the skin—the epidermis—which means the cancer cells are only in the outer layer of the skin and have not grown into the second layer of skin, called the dermis. Stage 0 melanoma is not considered invasive melanoma; the other stages (I, II, III, and IV) are invasive. In Stage 0 melanoma, there is no evidence the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes or to distant sites (metastasis). Stage 0 is local melanoma, meaning it has not spread beyond the primary tumor. Another term for Stage 0 melanoma is in situ, which means “in place” in Latin.

Prayers sent Richard.

Melanoma in-situ.

Have a derm surgeon do the surgery, you'll be fine.
Posted By: g5m Re: Melanoma Situ Cancer - 06/01/22
But keep getting followups. Left alone that stuff goes invasive.

Thanks all, odd it's behind my right ear, not that much sun has hot that spot.
Posted By: reivertom Re: Melanoma Situ Cancer - 06/01/22
Mom had that in the early 90s. Nothing happened after they peeled it off.

Prayers sent, Richard....keep us posted.
Posted By: Raeford Re: Melanoma Situ Cancer - 06/01/22
Have had a couple scraped off over the past 5-6 years.
None ever came back.
You should be fine

Derm Doc hit me 13 times a couple weeks back with the freeze bottle.
Felt like I had a fight with a swarm of hornets for a couple of days.

No one should be scraping a melanoma in situ.

If they tell you that's the plan, walk out the door and go somewhere else.

My bad, wrong info

Scraped my squamous cell carcinoma

Different manifestation

I say “scrape” but with mine they carved it off and below with a razor blade and torched the skin, then scraped the char off.

Treating stage 0 melanoma

Found this on the innanets

Stage 0 melanoma (melanoma in situ) has not grown deeper than the top layer of the skin (the epidermis). It is usually treated by surgery (wide excision) to remove the melanoma and a small margin of normal skin around it. The removed sample is then sent to a lab to be looked at with a microscope. If cancer cells are seen at the edges of the sample, a second, wider excision of the area may be done.

I shall repent with 3 units of “chansawr kollidge”

Had some burned off and had some cut off.

After the spots healed have not had any more show up.

The Doc is nicknamed DR.Freeze for a reason.

Get well soon and follow what the Doc says.

Get your SPF and a wide-brimmed hat.
Posted By: BigPine Re: Melanoma Situ Cancer - 06/01/22
squamous cell here . I had it cut out a few weeks ago on my neck. The spot was the size of a pencil eraser , but when they were done a had a 4 inch incision and 18 stitches. He cut deep too
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Melanoma Situ Cancer - 06/01/22
I could say, my troubles are behind me, my doctor was doing the prostate finger wave when he spotted it.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Melanoma Situ Cancer - 06/01/22
It'll be fairly serious surgery, I'll be under, and he said he'll move some tissue out of the way.

Thanks again all.
Posted By: las Re: Melanoma Situ Cancer - 06/01/22
No big deal if it is stage 0 as slummies post above./mole. Cut or cauterize by dermatologist. Keep an eye out for any suspicious new ones.

BTDT. Twice.

One "wart/mole" was behind my left ear, next to a benign one. After the nasty was cut out, the other went away also. They got it all the first time.

The one on my collar bone - they had to go back again after the lab results came back, and go deeper and wider- still not too large.

Knocked me out for the latter second procedure - d0n't remember on the otherinitial ones.

Good luck with it Richard.

Two different kinds of C for me, but not the melanoma.

Dermatologist and I are always looking for it.

Put you under?

Do what????

For that?? Something aint making sense. Sound deeper than Stage Zero.

Neither mind, I yield to superior intelligence of the campfire.

General anesthesia for a surface excision? ummmm Ok

Good luck and good health to you

Margins are hard to delineate on exam.

You may have an invasive component nearby that needs to be evaluated. Additional therapy/surgery maybe warranted.

On trunk, 1.0 cm margins are standard therapy, since delineation is hard.

Excision should also extend to fat.
Posted By: Valsdad Re: Melanoma Situ Cancer - 06/01/22
Might be locations related?

Wouldn't want a fella to flinch and lose a huevo or a willie or something.

Close to an eye, the doctor could put an eye out with that scalpel thing!

Sounds like plastic surgeon has a surgery center and is trying to rack up the bill.

I had a melanoma, too. Back of my neck and caught it very early. Had it removed with the Mohs Procedure. Later came down with a carcinoma on my left ear. They carved that one out as well. Had six-month checkups for two years and am now on an annual "Full Monty" check done by a lovely young lady Doc.

If I understand it correctly, the Mohs Procedure removes tissue layer by layer until they think they're down to "clean wood". It's the mostest bestest way to get rid of the truly evil guy Mel O'Noma. His cousin Carson Noma isn't as deadly, but still nasty.

Pretty sure Doc said probable carcinomas. She has froze or cut a half dozen off the backs of my hands in the last couple months.

So far biopsies have come back "precancerous".

Far too many years shoveling out corrugations, riding horses, and motorcycles, or driving tractor and never wearing a pair of gloves.

Wabi, best wishes and speedy recovery.

It's messing up my fishing trip. With the operation, and trip to Bostin, I'll be hard pressed to do it all.

Prayers from here, Richard.
My lesions have all been pre-cancerous, "The Warden" had a squamous cell removed from her face.
A little spot, the size of a pencil eraser - took ~ 1 1/2" incision to get it all.
Local anesthetic is all she got.
Didn't get it all the first time, and had to go back for seconds.
One office visit, though.

Melanoma: bad news
ON SITU: GOOD NEWS!

Piece of cake. Mine was behind my ear and small. Dermatologist cut it out in the office. Just had to wait until the biopsy confirmed they got it all. The final cut was about the size of a nickel. They stitched it up and the wife unit said I got a face lift on one side. 12 months ago and nothing found since. Prayers to you.

Melanoma is one of best and worst cancers. It all depends on if it has metastasized.. Had it already, my final overseas clearance, going out the door the Doc says let me look at that spot on your right arm. Mole looking thing, but a red rim. asked if it has been there long? Yes it has. took a biopsy of it, and got a call you need to get to the hospital right now. They cut it out and no issues 20+ years later. If it gets below 6mm or so into you it can get in the lymph nodes and basically your done once it hits some area you can't live without. Less than that, have it cut out and continue screening for more spots. Praying not your case, that it has metatasized.

You can always go fishing and to Boston later. Put your big girl panties on and don't whimper.

Spend a day in a true cancer facility and you'll feel blessed at the end of the day. 6 months watching a 16 year old take the same trial therapeutic drug that you are can be eye opening. Sadly, I'm the only one of the two of us that's still alive more than a year later..........

I have a 6 inch scar from 11 years ago that resulted from taking a mole sized tumor off my left thigh. When they removed it they thought it was benign, but they came back 2 weeks later and gouged me good when it wasn't. Today its the least of my worries.
