FINALLY - someone's trying to scam me. Been forever waiting for one of these idiots.

I work for a company. The leadership tree is basically CEO/Founder - then me. I'm the Director of Strategic Operations.

Well I just got an email from someone whose name is not in our company directory and whose title in the email (they sent from an iPad) is "General Manager". You know - a position I'd have hired and know about.

He wants me to "Run and get 6 Target Gift Cards at 500 each for some outstanding employees"

I'm about 6 emails deep with him now - explaining that I don't know if I'm allowed to leave my desk because we have to raise our hands to pee. He's let me know that he'll square it with my boss and to go quickly so I can be reimbursed by the end of the day.

I don't even have this year's fishing license yet.

Better hurry up, you will piss him off if you don't

I just told him "I'm leaving right now"

I still have a cashiers check for $6,000.00 from one of those losers…

I think that when I "get back" I'll let him know that I was so excited I just passed them out to the people on my way in. Now, please sent me my reimbursement.

Now we wait "I’m back. Sorry it took me so long, I got so excited, I just went around the office and passed them out to everyone already. Don’t worry – I made sure they knew you were the one who bought them.

How am I to be reimbursed? This was a lot of money. "

This is good -

I never asked you to do that.I will be distributing the cards personally to all the recipients email addresses.

There you go working above your pay grade again.....lol

He's freaking out now - wants me to collect them up and email him the info.

Complaining this was supposed to be a surprise.

I told him it was a surprise when I passed them out. I won't take them back, need to talk to my boss first as he was very impressed. I don't want to make my boss mad.

Getting quieter now. We'll see if I broke the line or not.

He's back -

Go and have them back immidiately .take photos of each individual card together so they can be much easier to interpret and email front and back of the cards alongside the receipt here. I'll forward the pictures to each recipient's email addresses as I have planned, to see their reaction towards it firstly.

I told him my boss said I can't spend more time on this - he has another project. I'll do it later, at break.

Was just told I have 15 minutes to get this done.

Told him I can't - in a meeting.

Our retired bookkeeper received an email stating I wanted her to do bonuses in a form similar to what you are getting[Visa Gift Cards] and and to go purchase and send me pics of front/backs of cards.

She had retired about 2 months prior and her emails were coming to me.

I played along for a bit.

It can get comical.

I was given 15 minutes to ge tthis done.

So I sent back -

I emailed everyone to let them know I was coming around to get them but I think some have left for lunch. We’ll see.

I guess I don’t understand why you can’t just stop by our desks and say “thanks” and leave the cards with them. Seems like a waste of time to have me collect them, take pictures, develop the film and then scan and email those to you.

You might want to mention that you have to use up the rest of the roll of film before you can take it to Walmart to be developed. That may take a week or two depending on how many pictures are left on the roll.

Dang it man, time is a wasting, go get those cards before you get in real trouble.....lol

I think I've broken the line - he's gone quiet.

I have a cousin who is extremely liberal who fell victim to that scheme. I think she lost $400.00.

She received an e-mail, allegedly from my brother's wife claiming they needed $400.00 right now and it was to be in the form of Gift Cards from Walmart or something like that. She tried to call my sister-in-law, but she and my brother were not available so my cousin went on and bought the gift cards doing whatever the scammer told her to do.

A couple of weeks later, my cousin called my sister-in-law and said she needed her $400.00 returned. My SIL was dumbfounded and had no idea what my cousin was saying and told her she knew nothing about any e-mails asking for "400.00 Gift cards." My cousin thought my SIL and brother were trying to rip her off and she hung up on my SIL.

Now my brother and SIL are very, very well off which my cousin should have known, but my cousin, who thinks she's smarter than Al Einstein, could not admit she'd been scammed. Being scammed on the Internet just can't happen to a super intelligent left liberal, can it? grin

I think my cousin believes my brother and SIL still owe her $400.00

I was looking forward to telling him to come by my desk and get them. Or that I don't remember hiring him.

We had a scammer send an email to our payroll clerk saying it was me and asking to change my direct deposit bank account. So she did it without asking me. Luckily I got an automated message from our payroll service and shut it down.

The email was from a bogus-looking Gmail account, which we don't use so she shouldn't have fallen for it. Our IT guys think the scammer got our names and titles off LinkedIn.

You should've fired him via email.

Well he was getting antsy - came back. We parlayed a bit and finally he goes "I bet you didn't even buy the cards. You're trying to get me to give you the money"

And I pulled the plug.

Basically told him I report to the CEO and know EVERY swinging richard in the firm. You don't work here. FOAD.

Too bad. You could've gotten a phone number.

I received an email from a friend I've known for many years asking me to pick up a $500 Apple gift card for him to give to a someone as he was out of town. The email address was his except at a different service. I played along for a bit then just said I had covid and couldn't get out. Probably somebody running a scam out of a prison somewhere.
