Committed on foreign soil, which is not a crime in the foreign land.

Partaking of child prostitutes comes to mind.

Can a state resident be charged in his/her home state for an act committed in another state, which is legal where it happened.

Reference: tourism abortion.

Or is prosecution at home for acts committed in foreign lands largely a myth.
"Or is prosecution at home for acts committed in foreign lands largely a myth."

Are not the feds prosecuting people that they learned went to foreign countries for a bit of underage poontang?

I do not know. We see it happen in TV crime dramas.

But none of Epstein's buddys have been charged.

Perhaps it is just an urban legend.
Go to UK for a vacation, and rent a car. Post videos of your drive.

Return to your state and get charged with driving on the wrong side of the road.

I'm no lawyer and I did not stay at a holiday inn, but I dont think you can prosecute for something that happened in another country. If you could, why would they have to extradite anyone. Example, he's wanted for murder in A and fled to country B. B captures him and extradites him to A.

But, the gov. went after drug cartels located in other countries, so.....
I had a utah highway patrol guy pull me over once because he thought the tint on my impala ss with idaho plates looked too dark for Utah standards. I was down there visiting for the weekend and believe he racially profiled me and pulled me over because my impala ss looked like a drug dealers car and was booming some hip hop music. I know that's worthy of the death penalty to some here but being narrow minded was never a strength of mine. I have a broad variety of tastes hince the redneck looking dude in the gangsta looking v8 impala. Cop was surprised to see a big blond haired idaho redneck with hunting regulations on the passenger seat amd a legit ccp so he had to make up a reason for the stop. He said this tint isn't legal in Utah. I said I don't live in utah and 35% front side windows are legal in idaho.

He wrote me a fix it ticket that stated I had to completely remove the tint from the front windows of my idaho car because I drove it in Utah. I was supposed to get the tint removed, have another police officer sign off on it, and then mail it back to them or I'd have to go back down to go to court. Luckily I had a cop friend in idaho who isn't a jack booted thug that just said here let me sign it.

I've been through this with cops in Arkansas. If its legal in the state which it is licensed, it is legal to travel through other states in. That cop was a jack-wagon.

How I wish this were true. In my state, Colorado, you can not drive ATV's or UTV's on public roads, even though they are licensed and legal in other states. States have rights that other states do not. Ronald Reagan once said, if you don't like the laws in your state, move to a state that does allow you your desires. When I was driving trucks between states, there were different laws in each state I had to travel through.

The cartels are selling their crap in the US which is a crime here. They likely aren't paying income taxes on their profits here but the IRS hasn't been after them that I know of. The IRS has put some major criminals in prison that couldn't be touched otherwise, like Al Capone.
A neighbor drove UPS in Denver, he said a UPS driver was stopped by two Colorado Patrolmen, one wanted to know if his Cabelas fishing rod was on the truck.
I make a hobby out of reading case law. Passes the time in the long winters. In our little mountain town, the local coffee shop is the place regular people go to visit and pass time. One visitor to our table is a Colorado state trooper. Nice guy but very professional. I bait him often and he has threatened to, in good humor, to take me out behind the cafe and Taze me. I asked him if during an investigation of a bank robbery, could any law enforcement personnel actually rob a bank as part of the investigation process. No of course not he said. I asked the same in a murder investigation could they commit a murder in the process of investigation. This got me a "are you really that stupid look" from him. The trap had been set. I then asked him why no arrest of LE personnel had been made during their child pornography investigation of people's computers. They had to look at it themselves to make a case against the sicko's. Again, he suggested we go out back and test out his tazer. Man, it's fun messing with him.

I had a discussion along these lines regarding someone I suspected of doing such. From what I gathered there, one might be liable to prosecution if the trip was planned for the purpose of an illegal activity as it would potentially fall under the "conspiracy" statutes rather than the statutes covering the act. If one went to the said country under other pretenses such as a business trip and procured such services on a whim, then the act would not be illegal.

I don't know if someone has actually been charged in such a circumstance but that is a potential interpretation of how the statutes are written in my state. The subject of my curiosity was arrested for a related offense shortly afterward which ended my interest.

Ha, no doubt. The IRS doesnt mess with the CYA.

I am not a lawyer either, but it appears to me that the pursuit of the drug cartels is due to the impact it has directly on our country. Not that it was successful, but the reasoning behind it.
Menendez investigated by the great FBY (as was Snow White, ex Sec of State) but crimes were not found and charges were not filed.

What an ahole cop.
Idaho Shooter: I don't know and have never thought about it - my advice to you or anyone contemplating humping a kiddo in a foreign land (or in this one!) "DON'T"!
Baby rapers do indeed have a "hard time" in prison.
Hold into the wind

I have no desire nor intent to hump a kiddo in any jurisdiction.

The point of the discussion was:
1 If Idaho completey outaws all abortions,
2 Can Idaho prosecute an Idaho citizen who travels to Oregon and has an abortion?
3 The thought of US prosecution for foreign pedophile offenses was only mentioned as a comparison.
4 I will retire from my job in Oregon in eight months. If I never again leave the state of Idaho, I will not be disappointed.

Do you think you can get preggers?
I think any local DA that did that, would have to be a moron of the highest order. Finally the 10th is getting some love, and then there’d be this new interstate case back at SCOTUS, just begging the feds to get back involved….

It pays to exercise the mind. You should try it.
