Every Protestant church I've ever been in doesn't control who takes it as long as they profess to be a Christian. Whether they are or not or whether they're taking it in a worthy manner is between them and God, not between them and the church.

While that may be true to some extent, it is undeniably true that the Catholic church is and has been for many years. Much more so than say, the Baptists or Penecostals.
The apostle Paul warned us against taking communion in an unworthy manner. She’s as unworthy as they come.
