About 80 mins

Regular knife work would have taken me and a helper 3 hours.

Would have had to listen to boring family stories.

Needs better handles. I could make some with tape and wood to bulk it up.

Have to go slow or that chit will get slung up onto the ceiling. Also don’t want to cut into the cob.

You save the cobs - if so, what for? Seems like middle aged housewives would love to spend 12 buck on 3 of them dried out as "harvest decorations"

What- - - -you don't have an outhouse? Use a red cob first, then a white one to see if the red one got the job done!

Now just how would I get red ones? We don’t eat that field corn. That’s for hogs and darkies

NeVeR cut into the cob.

that's like going full retard or something.

I never thought of the drill and screw deal, but if I ever grow a bunch of corn I'll try to remember it.

Went to a taxidermist shop. Not my regular people but long ago.

Above the buffer wheel or whatever it is. On the ceiling was a dried ever growing stalactite of only God knows what. 🤢

Or run that drill bit into my palm.
Posted By: slumlord Re: Korn Kutter - 07/15/22
We just dragged our newest little 5 cu ft freezer over to the big shop and plugged it up. So it can receive this corn after its cooked down and bagged.

I’ll just call it the corn freezer 😃 #8

My uncle has been clearing out our Great uncle’s house last few weeks. He’s been coming down to the shop and leaving me more canning jars as they go thru attics, closets, sheds and his barn. Even boxing them up for me.

Check out the mayo jars. Looks like about 8-10 dozen. I had to clear him out a spot to shelve them.

I got of those contraptions somewhere.

Never used it. Forgot about it til now.

I use a $3 yard sale Bundt pan.

Hold the cob on the raised center part.

Run down the sides with an electric filet knife.

Corn falls down in pan.

No muss. No fuss.

I considered that too. No telling where a bundt pan is around here. I’d have hunt through 35 cabinets and 2 walk in pantries, under stairwells.

We always scrape the cobs with the backs of our knives to get all that corn juice goodness. But that gizmo looks like a good idea.

Big cooker full of fresh cut corn on the stove will about starve you to death.

We always used these on 'corn day'

antique kraut/slaw cutter, usually had 3 of them going for cutting off a long bed truck full of corn. Boiled, ice bathed, cut, bagged, and then frozen with a salt/sugar solution. Corn for the year.

Cobs can be boiled to make cob jelly. My Mammaw made it and it reminds me of apple jelly.
Posted By: TrueGrit Re: Korn Kutter - 07/15/22
Here's the corn cutter we used. I like to cut kernels and scrap the milk pulp off cob at the same time. It all taste good to me.

Here's how we roll. We cut it on a truck tailgate outside. Just spray it off when we're done. Kitchen isn't sticky.

My wife makes this salsa with it and it's delicious.

Sweet corn (uncooked)
Tomatoes
Onion
Can of black eyed peas
Cilantro
Sea salt to taste

Serve with tortilla chips.

Dang that looks good. So you just leave the corn raw?
Ever tried squirting a little lime juice in it? I may have to try it.

I have not, but will. Lime juice would be good in it. Yes, raw corn. Just pick it and cut it off the cob.

A buddy uses an angel food cake pan with the top cut off the center cone.
Has the pan sitting on a small table top that has a hole in it.
Take the ear and push it all the way through till it falls down into a bucket. The kernels fall down into the cake pan.
Easy peasy.

The flies would haul me and the corn away by the time I did 300+ ears with that. I don’t know for sure. Maybe maybe not. I’d get tired and rake the meat off my hand. 😳

I’m zipping an ear every few seconds, as fast as I can chuck up and chuck off the cob.

I guess it’s be ok if I picked up 10 ears from the farmers mkt.
