In your car, or pickup, when was the last time you even saw, gloves in one?
Since covid that's where I keep my surgical gloves for pumping gas.
The name 'glove box' was derived from it's original purpose which was to store driving gloves. Driving gloves were considered essential gear in the early years of the automobile, for obvious reasons.
Didnt keep gloves in the glove box. but gloves a beanie, and a thick azz coat were required clothing in the crummy I was using a few years ago. Heater worked barely good enough to keep the windshield sorta thawed out. Was glad to see that chevy go to auction
I keep at least two pairs of gloves in my car, but one of them stays in the between-seats storage place. There's usually a thin pair for cool-weather driving, and a work pair for roadside use if needed. In winter, there's also a thick woolen pair in my "stuck in a snowdrift" backpack.

Registration, insurance card, flashlight and fast food napkins.
I went to get a topper on my truck one time and they told me they needed to look in the glove box to get some paint code or something. I got a little twitchy and the guy asked "Gun or Dope"? I said "what?" and he said every time someone gets antsy about him looking in there it was due to one or the other. I told him one was always there and the other was never there.
Boomers like to keep the cilly phones in them….
“Ain’t nobody calling me and wasting my minutes…..”
“Hubert, why didn’t you call someone when you fell in the yard on the way to the mailbox ?”
“Had my phone in the glove box. Ain’t gonna be bothering me with calls and that 5g radiation.”
Extra smokes, cz magazines, the wallet with the important stuff that never gets carried around, parking hang tags for 2 universities (currently - have been up to 5) and a half dozen lens wipes. It stays locked so other people's booger pickers stay out of it. I know of it's construction so if fast opening is needed, it can be done. The contents will most likely eject themselves all over if forcefully ripped open though.

I keep some nitrile gloves in the center console of my F-250 for when I fuel it only because every single diesel nozzle leaks biggly.

Never
It has been called a “jokey box” for as long as I can remember. Seems to be an intermountain west thing. Kind of like “soda” is “pop”, where I come from.
It is nowhere near big enough for my jockey to fit in.
Registration, insurance card, lighter, cigar cutter, and a stogie in mine.
