Ballads as a whole suck bigly! They always sound like rock stars trying to play country music. May as well listen to the real thing! These two are pretty good as far as the genre goes tho.
JFC I hate that song. When AXL tries to be Elton. He should've stuck with Welcome to the Jungle type schit...that band has been washed up for 35 years. One good Album and three decades of submission to that douchebags ego.
Not saying it is the "greatest" but I've always really liked "Thorn Tree in the Garden" by Derek and the Domino's "Layla" album . . . Always takes me back to my college days and some special times.
Maybe not tops, but my favorite version of this song. Jeff Buckley drowned in the Mississippi River at the age of 31 while in Memphis to work on new material.
It's worth a listen if you've never heard it before.
November Rain by GNR More than Words by Extreme She Talks to Angels by The Black Crowes Unforgiven by Metallica I Remember You by Skid Row Faithfully by Journey

Holy hair band fanboy. I knew they were out there but JFC never saw one so proud of it.
Ina Gadda Da Vida. Ding... Ding ...Ding we have a winner! I've even got an album that is virgin... the cellophane is intact. Stairway to Heaven is a contender but Iron Butterfly for the win. The drum solo rules.

Live at the Berkeley Community Theater in 1982. I took a college (San Luis Obispo) sweetheart to it. The home I lived and grew up in was 45 minutes away. The drum in Southern Cross just shook your guts and Steven Stills did phenomenal acoustic guitar work on Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. What a show, what a weekend.
Ph ucking crash test dummies wtf.. I gave you all a good ph ucking play set.. no one matter of fact I guarant gd tee you no one has crash test dummies on any playlist.

I grew up in the 80s 🤷♂️😂 lots of good older stuff out there too. When I think ballads I think hair bands
Sorry I just get triggered when that song gets mentioned. Then I have to compose myself and realize that the world is full of morons and I can't do anything about it. Check. Breathe deeply.

I've noticed you get really wrapped-up when people post music that 'you' don't like.
PM Rick and see if you can become music moderator.

I'd venture a guess most that grew up in the 80's believe "power ballads" from hair bands to be the pinnacle as seen in this thread.
Old guys like Shrapnel post up what they wrongly believe to be ballads from their era (Ina Gadda Davida? WTF?) and think they are on the money. Which is fine considering when asked for "Great modern rock albums" last week he posted one from the mid 70's.

One of the best albums ever made is hard to follow-up
GNR Lies wasnt great but It did have PATIENCE and USED TO LOVE HER (but I had to kill her) USE YOUR ILLUSION I & II had some good songs - like November Rain, Dont Cry 1 & 2, Knockin' on Heaven's Door (I much prefer it to Dylan's or anyone elses)
+200 HOlY [bleep] who made GITM the ahole in charge of music. [bleep] your opinion GITM

You [bleep] (ghostmachine cant figure out how to get fu k ing to show up, he is from minnesota) loser. That's really bad music...why can't people see that.
Next time space "fu k ing" and helps to spell it right. Or you can spell it Ph ucking as well.. GNR ph ucking rules as well..

Whoa now, before you misrepresent it, the Uriah Heap album was from the 70’s but duly noted as such. What you didn’t get was the graphics on the album cover.
And I didn’t post up the In a Gadda Davida song either. What happened to your sense of truth and fairness?

Maybe I missed the mark here?
I thought Valsdad posted it and you were all, "Right on Brother!"

1 : extremely or excessively sentimental music or art " … It's not showbiz schmaltz; it's a story about the battle to overcome hardship. … "— Elton John A lot of people make fun of this show, pegging it as pure schmaltz. — ReadWriteWeb (online) "Doin' It" is both ridiculous schmaltz and a luscious rap song that sounds like a 5:45 p.m. sunset over Gotham City.— Pete Tosiello
If the American public only knew, it's rampant in Rock and Roll.
Peter Green
How about this one: Born Chaim Witz, Gene Simmons grew up attending yeshiva in Brooklyn (his upbringing was so Jewish that when he first saw a picture of Santa Claus, he figured the bearded guy must be a rabbi). Simmons began playing with fellow Hebrew Paul Stanley (Stanley Harvey Eisen) in a band called Wicked Lester,
And another:
In 1958, young Leslie Weinstein received a guitar as a Bar Mitzvah present. Almost ten years later, Weinstein, now calling himself Leslie West, formed the hard-rock band Mountain.
We've been brainwashed by listening to that Rock and Roll crap for years I guess.
Actually, I was gonna tell a story about a buddy of mine that took his hot girlfriend to see Soundgarden back in the 90’s. They ended up backstage and met Cornell who asked if they’re relationship was very open. They were kinda taken back we he told them he’d fugg both of them.

Lol So what? Where ya been Rock star? Kinda losing points here bud.
I couldn't hit the button on the Philco fast enough when Love Hurts, Sister Christian or Still Loving You came on. Those three are off the top of my head. There are others.
