Hi all

I know…I know it’s probably not the best place to look and ask

Wife and I are looking for a place in Florida. Currently live in Wisconsin 🥶. We like the Ft Myers area/Destin/Tampa area but are open to others as well. Preferred close to the water. Looking to make the move within the next year. Shoot me a pm if you have one you would consider selling or know of someone. I am not a realtor.

Thanks much!

Will

So you're a Realtor?
I’d rather be in hell with my back broke than live anywhere near Tampa.

BTW Slumlord, good call on the maters yesterday but I think you Googled it..
My college buddy Jon is a realtor in south Florida. Give him a call. Tell him Scott sent you.

Yes

I have never seen little ones like that before. I had to know myself
No beach access in Ft. Meyers, it rains every day in the summer and it's way south. No mosquitos there because they spray at night.

I spent 9 months working in Fort Walton Beach (across the bridge from Destin) and loved it. Good fishing\hunting and close to IH10 if you want to travel. I was shocked at how cold it got in Fort Walton Beach until I realized it's the same latitude as central Texas where I live. Destin is a tourist town.

I worked in Tampa for 6 months and hated everything about it.

Dear Will,

Being the holder of more than one real-estate title I receive about 25 to 30 calls a week and numerous mailings from sleazebag realtors fishing for new listings.

Why is it that your post is worded exactly like those mailings and calls I receive?

Jeff

Can't imagine havin' to try to pick um.
You'd need a berry rake.

BTW
I think this post is pure spam.
Don't move here. Floriduh sucks.
Jeff

Thanks for all your responses!!! I am not a realtor and quite honestly don’t like to work with them at all. I have went through a few down there and have since stopped viewing through them. I am a landlord and am perfectly capable of drafting a offer myself and getting a deal done. No need for a realtor. Did you have a place you may want to sell in Florida or just concerned that I am a realtor? Thanks much
22 million people in that state. Crazy.

Will,

Being Florida is the home of Donald Trump and Ron Desantis and you being from Wisconsin and all, they might not let you move here.
Do not move to Florida, there's bugs, snakes and gators everywhere, bugs, and did I mention the bugs?
Traffic is nuts, its really hot. insane humidity, and too many yankees
Jeff

They would be thrilled to have a pale white trump/desantis loving Wisconsinite join them 😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Venice is nice.
I'm just about the right distance from Florida........yup .....no bugs at all ..none.... Oct to mid April anyway.

You got a photo ID, maybe a little DNA?
Man If I was going to move to Florida

It would be North Florida 100%, somewhere between Okefenokee swap, hugging the Alabama.

Fouck living ‘near the water’. An hour’s drive would be nice enough near the water. Yet back enough to soften property values from the over-hype inflated numbers.

Something near a desolate one traffic light town, where old men sell boiled peanuts and the black folks are friendly. Possibly near an inland lake, Apalachacola bay, maybe near some springs to do some clear water inland kayaking and fishing.

That’s just me. If you want a shîtty condo life, horns honking, spring break foolishness, Florida gone Freaknik, NFL football team jive…that’s all you
Best part of Florida is the Governor! Pensacola is a nice place, has the water attributes of FL but much more livable than the central FL west coast. I live in Tallahassee but no water here, the Clearwater area is nice also.

Best thing about Tampa is it has an International Airport so you can usually get the heck out of there quickly.

You're describing Sopchoppy FL.

We're plumb full up with Yankees. The ticket booth is closed.
Get all your shots and move to The Villages.
Bring some blue tarps. It gets pretty windy down there from time to time I hear.
22 million, and how many are illegals?
Now isnt the time.

Florida and Arizona are great places to make a bundle on real estate.

When your friends are buying,
don't.

When they are selling "The Vacation Home" so their broke ass
doesn't lose everything in a down economy, buy.

Both are very vulnerable to economic fluctuations.

Further South, here on the Nature Coast we take our celebrations and festivals much more seriously.

I lived / worked in Florida for 42 years. Had enough… moved out 4 years ago. Don’t miss the heat, humidity, traffic and knuckleheads. My daughter / sil and grandkids are there. We can visit whenever. That works.
Inverness is where my grandfather is buried
Nice place to visit a few weeks in the winter.

Whilton122, I guess my question would be why? If you can swing it, the thing to do is January-April if only to get out of our cold weather. That's what we do, but probably for only another year or two. Like others have said, northern Florida looks better to me with less people, better fishing, closer to better hunting. Prices down there are going up like a rocket, even in central Florida where we are in Poinciana. The wife says the housing prices are nuts there, but I tell her that we are looking at it from a Midwest income standpoint and those East Coast people flocking there are paying 4k a month just to rent and they want out of that rat race. We aren't beach people, but either coast is accessible in an hour or two. Going anywhere in central FL. you are going to feel like a minority, because you are unless you are fluent in Spanish. I wouldn't know how to hunt there with leaves on the trees year around. People target shoot there, but I've yet to meet a hunter. Traffic is awful and getting worse. Getting there on the Interstate is no treat either. We get the Orlando news and they can fill up an hour with murders, car jackings and assaults. Culture shock when they need to flesh out the half hour news here with the weather and high school football highlights.

Poinciana? just outside of Kissimmee?
Yes, Yes, Yes, move there...

Nevermind the language being spoken in the public location this video was shot in, Poinciana is 56.51% White so you have better than a 50/50 chance of atleast one of your neighbors speaking English.

I went down there with my mom for a week back in 2008 and we found a place in Cape Coral. We should have bought 3 at the time a lot smaller then we wound up with to lease out as prices are crazy now. The population in Cape Coral doubles around Christmas and my parents say the toll bridge keeps some of the riffraff out. When the market changes we may buy down there again.
Posted By: RicG Re: WTB——Florida real estate - 08/20/22
Poinciana is ALL hispanic... mostly Puerto Rican. Not where I lived but close enough to know why.

08 would have been the time in that area, they fell hard and fast during the housing crash but sprang back quick and fabulously.

Huge money made in that era.
Stay in Wisconsin.

Thanks.
BIL/SIL spent three years researching FL for the best place.

Settled on Vero Beach.

So just pick a location and a house, pretend you bought it then watch and see how well it survives the coming storm.

It can be a preview of sorts...
Check with deflave, I once heard him say that next to Texans, Wisconsiners would be his favorite choice in a new neighbor. laugh
Thinking about where we’ll land post-Oregon Blue Bûllshit. Avoiding storm surge but still looking for waterfront somewhere, but not too far from the ocean.

Gotta have my salt fix.
Florida is closed. We are all full up. Sorry.
Wait ‘til the hurricane goes through… 😊

Boy howdy, renting makes sense.

Run away from hurricanes.

I bet there's some cheap land to be had in some of them trailer parks in Ft Meyers soon.
They’re going to be some deals in the impact area for all cash buyers but you’re not going to be able to get reasonably priced insurance. The overpriced insurance you can buy will not come close to making you whole from windstorm or flood damage.
Know a guy that paid 510k for 2300 sq ft w/pool March of this year. He picked Punta Gorda partly because the hurricanes hardly ever land there. Day before yesterday they spent best part of 24 hours getting literally pounded, while the eye just hung around without much movement. They are fine, house lost a few shingles, some soffit. Surge did not reach them. Power gonna be out maybe two weeks or more. Ian was supposed to land here, I got lucky.
Someone mentioned yankeetown FL. Not a bad place….just north of Crystal River. Great inshore fishing area. Ingles, FL just down the road has the real estate deals. I know w neighborhood with large lots of 15-30k.

Check out Ingles

Surprisingly the deals on wet houses were few and far between after the hurricane Hermine surge flooded the Crystal River area in 2016.

I was up and down every street for weeks looking and the few that did hit the market were not being given away.

FEMA was quite friendly to everyone on that storm.

Quite a few did hit the market after being rehabbed but at sky high prices.

I got one, but it never hit the market and it was of unique circumstances.
