I once visited a Fire Member that Told me that I was not a Man because I did not drink with him.
Well it looks like this October will probably be no different than any other month unless I get a cold. My Favorite cold Medication is Doctor Magilicuty's Menthol Schnapps. (sorry for my Spelling)
That is just about the only time I drink hard stuff.
I like to have a clear head because I already do stupid stuff when I am Sober and really do not like the feeling of being Fuzzy Drunk
So I will Say it before anyone else
I guess I am just not a Man because I choose not to drink.
Oh I do not have anything against drinking I spent 2 years practically living in a Bar on the weekends and in that 2 years I had 3 drinks and freaked out the Waitresses and Bar Tenders.
Being around Drunk people can be a Blast. It is just not for me.

I'll join ya'. Easy peazy, I quit years ago. I was damn near a professional at one time.
Still have a full bottle of Elijah Craig, Buffaloe Trace, Famous Grouse 1/2 gallon , Large bottle of Patron, Kettle one Vodka, Turkey 101 1/2 gallon. It just sits there...
I was handed a spiked cranberry juice drink about 5 years ago at a Christmas party. Otherwise nada for this side of the campfire. Don't need alcohol, and don't miss it. If i want something good to drink we can our own grape and cranberry juice, or the local apple orchards usually have plenty of cider.

I have traveled the globe and risked my life to spread the gospel of Flave and will do so again in the future. I don't even drink that much (maybe once a week) but have always said that I don't trust vegetarians or people who refuse to drink alcohol. Even if it's only one month, it's against my religion.
I’m with ya on sober Oct. I dropped the beer drinking two weeks back, trying to loose weight. Realized real quick how much money I’m saving when I go to the grocery story. Also feel a lot better. Also getting a lot more done. Along with going to the gym a lot more.

No doubt!
I love autumn and October is one of my most favorite months so I have no desire to ruin it by attempting the impossible, it’s setting myself up for failure right outta the gate.
In reality I don’t drink like I used to. I’ll go out after trap shooting on Tuesdays for a few beers with my buddy or occasionally sit around with the neighbors for a few++ drinks. My daily half rack hasn’t happened for 10 years now and I feel a lot better in the mornings. One of the benefits of drinking occasionally versus daily is that I don’t have to drink nearly as much as I used to in order to get a good beer buzz going but whiskey is the same, I can drink it like water until I walk into the wall.😂

Is that all?
I retired after a good long career as a pro. None of that "practicing alcoholic" for me.
Every day was Game Time.
Usually no warm up, jump right into it to start the day.
So Flavester...................count me in.
November, Dec, Jan.........etc etc if you want to.
I'm in, I haven't drank in a few weeks, should probably keep it going. I have a problem putting the brakes on once I start to get my drank on....hmm that sounds like country lyrics.
Never been a drinker, no a big fan of pissin my money away, I will have no trouble staying sober the rest of my life. Flave if you can sober up good for you, now let's see how long you can stay Sober?? Rio7
I drank close to fifty years, was never an Alcoholic, just loved my Beer, a lot of things would have been different in my life if I hadn’t started as a teenager, I came to realize that nothing new was ever going to happen from drinking, just a habit, hand to mouth thing, not trying to preach, but I’m still the same man I always was, just a lot happier. I haven’t had a beer in five years and ten months. I don’t even remember really drinking now . I had 10 cases in fridge when I stopped, gave beer to everybody, they all thought I was crazy! I can hand out beer to friends or be around it and never even think about it.
Drunk once in my life, almost 30 years ago. Working on a 30 pack bought in August.
Had 1 beer with supper last night, and I'm out before I got started.
Doc ask me if I drink once. "Well,.... yeah" "How much" "Case or two a year" "If that's all, why not quit" "That little, what's it hurt?" He laughed and agreed.
No way I could go a month without my 800mg Ibuprofen. Well, it ain't worth going without them.

Count me in. I'll support anyone's sobriety, even those who don't seem particularly supportive of others. When you're ready, I'd also suggest ditching the tobacco. Both are means of self-medicating. The dip isn't doing you any favors, despite thinking it gives you energy, helps you focus...pick your rationale (and an addict can and will). If you're ready to stop killing yourself with tobacco, this site is an excellent place to start. Believe me, you'd fit right in to that forum; dip rage is welcomed. Good luck on however you've decided to frame your journey.

Wideopen - 13 years sans tobacco and alcohol.
No drinking AND no tobacco??
WutRya drunk?
The upside of quitting dip? Everything. Having a jaw is useful for chewing food. No more being worried about every little sore in your mouth. No more lectures from the dentist. Removed a useless expense. No more scheduling your routine so you could get one more. Not having to worry about the look of that crap in your mouth. Healthy gums. It was such a simple decision to put myself through hell to quit it. Made the decision one day, and quit cold-turkey. Nicotine replacement therapy wasn't in my DNA; nicotine had to go.
Add alcohol to the mix, and the health risks balloon. Together they greatly increase the risk of oral and esophageal cancer. Best decision, evah.

Oh, I'm not saying it's a bad thing to quit either habit. I just can't wrap my mind around doing both at the same time! lol

Duckin’ to avoid camera exposure. LOL! Good job Deflave. Sumbody coulda been dyin’ o’thirst!
Fugkin’ road was right there!
I didn’t want some Seminole to see me stashing that schit.
Jack was there back on the south 40. He'd gotten separated from his phone for a few minutes and missed the 'ring cam' alert. You just missed him by a few minutes.
Since 10/01 fell on a Saturday, there will be a two day grace period for those that want to participate.

Fare enough, I won't finish this bottle of tequila today, but it can sit in the freezer for a while. going to light the pit after the cowgirl's game and cook some short ribs and fajitas.

Is this a precursor to you suddenly disappearing from the Fire for 3 months?

Flave is always here.

Flave is The Omega.
Yeah, yeah…you’re Omni potent.
Here’s the thing, Gidget….When you leave with out warning. Some people, like that broke bitch in Alaska that works at the dump. He get’s really depressed, and starts posting stuff that is so bizarre we almost need a decoder ring to decipher his ramblings.
Then we have all those mid west rednecks that act like lost sheep, going baah, baah, we miss Flave! This place isn’t the same, baah, baah.
The only State in the union that celebrates your absence is Texas.

I was chasing down another South Florida friend to see if he was OK after the storm.
He don't drink beer, he's a Crown Royal guy.
I had to do a online search to get his exact address to look his house up on the NOAA site to see if it'd been damaged.
His home took a hit but the roof was still on. He's a man of resources, he can stand on his own two feet, if he's not had to much Crown.
He'll survive.
It's the other little things that pop up with those searches about a guy that I found a bit disturbing, it's also a testament as to why guys should take a little break from their drinking now and again.
Don't be in denial, this could happen to any of us that on occasion have a couple or six too many..
My dear and beloved friend made global news headlines with his drinking, the following is from a UK paper..
Horrified teenage girl returns to find car has been deliberately crushed by man in monster truck with five foot wheels
A teenage girl has been left broken-hearted after her car was crushed by a man in a huge camouflaged truck.
Norman Nowling, 40, from Fort Myers in Florida was arrested on Saturday after witnesses claimed he had deliberately driven over the 1994 Toyota Corolla several times.
The incident occurred at the Redneck Yacht Club during the annual 'Swamp Cabbage Weekend', which sees 4,000 revellers in monster trucks and pickups speed around an 800-acre mud park for fun.
Weapon of choice: This camouflaged monster truck, owned by Nowling, is believed to be the vehicle which was driven over the car
Campers come from as far afield as Alaska to attend the $40 event, which was described by one visiter as 'a mini Mardi Gras, with mud'.
But Norman, just like the rest of my friends, is a responsible stand up guy, like Deflave, a man of his word.
Red Neck Yacht Club car crushing, Part II: Man reimburses teen for vehicle
The man who used his "monster van" to crush a 16-year-old girl's car over the weekend made good on his mistake Tuesday, WBBH-TV of Fort Myers reports.
Norman Nowling was arrested on a charge of felony criminal mischief after squashing the Toyota Corolla early Saturday morning at the Redneck Yacht Club in Charlotte County.
"I'm sure there's no other 16-year-old who can say, 'My first car got run over by a monster truck,'" said Amanda Kent.
Nowling met with the Kent's stepfather Tuesday, and gave her a $6,500 check to cover the cost of getting her a new vehicle. She says she'll start shopping for a new car this afternoon.
"I need to go to sleep every night with a clear conscience," Nowling said.
But Nowling says he still takes issue with the way the incident was handled. He admits to driving over the car, but says he wasn't the first to do it -- and he feels security at the venue unfairly singled him out.

DelFarve: I drink me a little beer on a warm day and a Margarita once a month or so when dining out - but being "sober" is a way of life for me. I spent 29 years dealing first hand, professionally with drunks, booze hounds, wife beaters and wasted life alcoholics - lesson learned - drunkeness is vile and a waste of ones life, time, money, brain cells, livers and righteousness. Good luck in October and while you're at it stay sober the rest of your life. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
I’ve been mostly sober since 96. I’ll occasionally have a beer or two or a bourbon and coke. It got to where even I didn’t like myself very much when I was drunk and I couldn’t recover from a hangover quickly. Now, two beers and I’m feeling it enough to laugh at myself for being a light weight.

I haven't drank a drop of alcohol since the 1st of October.
It's as big a deal as one makes of it.
This isn't a problem for me, I have full control of my body, mind and life, there's no question that I'll make a full pull right on through the end of the month.
I have well laid plans.
There will be no better way to end this 'Sober October' event than to make damn sure a 'November to Remember' is to follow.

Two guys I know who were both dry alcoholics were talking one day. Ron told Larry that this sobriety isn’t all it’s cracked up to be either. I took it as words to live by. Edk
I went through a fifth of vodka (no Gatorade, just ice) last night and am about to hit the edibles tonight. So I consider this to be a sober October, compared to September.

Plan on not drinking anymore, feeling much better, losing weight, and blood pressure getting back to normal = no more meds. Down to 202lb from 228-232.

I'm down now too, not a big guy but at my last kidney doc appt I was 184 (most since HS, I'm 5'8") then two weeks ago I was at 179. Trying to do Keto (less carbs) but it's tough. Walking more too. Don't plan on hitting the whiskey as much but figured I deserve a break today.

I'm 5.8 also, when I was working out lifting in my late 40s I was 190-195, but it was mostly muscle, I have always had a little belly even then. I want to get down to 185 and then hit the weights. My younger brother was 165 but has bulked up to 189 over the last 6 months, lifting, he is also 5.8.

Same height here.
Scale read 195 the other morning. Trying to get back to 185, where I was in my 40's and even into part of my 50's. Walking a bit more than in the summer. Will have to get some oil on the stationary bike so I can get some cardio type work done now that winter is here. Snow shoveling will help too.

If most of that 184 were muscle mass I wouldn't be worried about it but alas, it's not.

I didn't drink, May - August. Had a few when I had to put our dog down on 9/2. One other time around the middle of September. Then one night in October, I just felt like having a few beers, so I did. I didn't make the sober tober but have been a good boy ever since.
Delfarve: I have NOT been drunk in well over one half a century! Just WAY to many gun and Hunting related things to spend my hard earned dollars on. So indeed October was/is/will forever be "sober" for me. Seek counseling - you may need professional care. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I'm doing it, but mainly to lose weight. No bourbon or beer for the whole month. I might have an occasional glass of wine with dinner, but I'm hoping to avoid that too.
