for my youngest grandson, I had an apple crate, mine was a 5-speed with a stick shift when I was a kid.

The perfect setup for wheelies!
Kid down the street had the "Lemon Peeler" I think it was. I was jealous as hell. Cool bike.
Lessee...
Lemon Peeler
Orange Krate
Pea Picker
Cotton Picker
Apple Krate
Grey Ghost
I had the white Cotton Picker for a few months before it was stolen. Loved that bike.
needs a sissy bar on the azz of that nanner seat....
The stick shift could be hell on the family jewels if you catch my drift. My best friend almost got castrated after he jumped a ramp and landed on it the wrong way
My brother who is 5 years older had the 5 speed stick version in the 70s. I was so jealous, I never did get one as cool.
Those Schwinns are cool but that PK ripper
was the chit in my day.
The perfect setup for wheelies!
riding a wheelie all the way around the block . Now that took skillz

missed that -you're right At least 3 feet. I had a purple one
Hard to go wrong with a bicycle, here’s one I bought for the grandkid.
People tell me my son looks like the mailman.
So the Orange krate is Orange the Apple krate is red is the cotton picker black? 😏
I guess I was born too soon to get to enjoy a bike like that. We were just glad to have a bike that had tires that would hold air for more than a day.
Banana bike! I’ve told it before but my youngest brother was running his down the hill in front of the house trying to see how fast he could go. He hit a rock and with those hi handlebars just slightly over corrected and got into some wobble and it was ugly. It took a while for all the road rash to heal 😳
Those little 20" bikes with the high rise handlebars, banana seats, etc. were just coming out shortly before I got my driver's license.
Never had one, although my younger brothers did.
Man memories. Lemon peeler. Banana seat was perfect for the paper route saddle bags. Was a money making wheelie machine....

Use to do it without holding the handlebars, on a 10 even.
Oh man, there is a Napa store in Chico with a bunch of old school banana seat bikes on the top of the shelves between aisles.
Stick shifts and steering wheels on some.
Pretty cool.
I grew up late 70’s-80’s. A hutch Woody Itson Trickstar was the holy grail.
I had a GT pro-performer, and a Robinson BMX.
Redline, Hutch, SE, GT, Mongoose and Haro’s were the big names. Still have a vision Gator and an Alva Tex Gibson skateboard in the garage my son rides.
Cheap chink junk... For starts the weld joints are not smooth radius and flowing likes on the originals where the top tube, down tube, meet the head tube... Hard pass.
I had a Schwinn Stingray in dark metallic green when I was a kid. Rode the hell out of it.

I had a metallic gold one.
Road it until I got my Honda Trail 70 at 10 or 11.

OP - nice bike man1

Not going to pay three to eight grand for an old one.

I did also. I remember My parents paid 75$ for it.
Agreed. Probably a much better bike.
Well, I guess for some folks style is everything. But all my friends who had those Schwinn Stingrays were kind of a drag whenever we actually were going anywhere. Slow pigs of a bike. On my plain Jane 3 speed "city" bike, I constantly had to wait for them to catch up.
For $700, you can get something that moves, and will outlast that showpiece. But you gotta decide what's important to you.
I have that exact bike hanging up in the garage. Wife's dad kept it for her. Absolutely pristine.
Fun bike but it rides terrible. Makes a good conversation piece.
