Just mentioned on the radio, a plane crashed....

Indeed....
I was a senior in high school then. We were all going to see Lynyrd Skynryd at the old New Haven Coliseum later in 1978.
gotta like a southern rock group who has a song about coon huntin
one of my favorites
And they live on today in their music.I can listen to those old songs over and over, they take me back to my younger days in the 70's.Good Times.Good Music.Turn it up!!!
Yep, that was a real bummer. They had it all going on.
Gone,but definitely not forgotten…
Maybe, maybe not. Boston and similar bands didn’t end up in a plane crash and have pretty much fizzled out. Plane crashes sometimes help your legacy.

“Sweet Home Alabama” is an iconic rock ballad, certainly one of my favorites, but “Saturday Night Special” puts Skynyrd in a category with Neil Young and other malcontents…
I was watching FOX the other day and they said Artimus Pyle survived the crash, went to a nearby home, and the homeowner thought he was an intruder and shot him, he was just winged, wtf??

Sad day indeed, one of the best bands, ever.

I was also a HS Senior in 1977 when their plane went down.
Elvis also died in 1977, two months before Skynyrd’s plane crash.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is still my favorite all time Southern Rock Band. In the original configuration.

I can’t stand to listen to the no talent hack Johnny Van Zant butcher up his big brothers songs. 😡😡😡

The only original member of Skynyrd touring in the “current” Skynyrd band is guitarist Gary Rossington.
All of the other original members are dead, except for Rossington and drummer Artimus Pyle, who joined the band 3 years before the plane crash.
Pyle refused to tour with the current “band”.

The homeowner fired a warning shot, then helped Pyle and helped rescue the other survivors.

Pyle later stated that he had joked that the farmer shot him, and that it was not true.
A couple of my favorites, although they never get much AirPlay like Freebird & Sweet Home Alabama

Speaking of plane crashes... I was just thinking... Would Austin have remained a better place had Stevie Ray Vaugn not died so early...
On related news, DeSantis made a surprise visit at a skynyrd concert.

Then he stated on FOX just yesterday that buddy winged him, maybe he is a bullshyter.
Remembering that they were chasing & trying to break a record; The most amount of concerts in so many days.

Maybe they should have listened to, "Simple Man"
I wasn’t gonna post this as parts of it come across like from a gossip magazine and not History101 but since folks are talking about the circumstances of the crash here’s a thorough account.

Like Buddy Holly et al., Jim Croce, Randy Rhodes, Stevie Ray Vaughan and I suppose Kobe Bryant, all preventable had the usual practices and precautions been in effect.

I this case the account has it the plane in question was known to be liable to serious mechanical problems.

From RealClearHistory.com......

Ronnie said he liked to perform barefoot so he could feel the stage burning. Sad day indeed. One of the best bands of all time. Their music changed & influenced a lot of lives.

From the interviews I’ve seen and the 2 or 3 Skynyrd documentary’s, evidently the plane was a real piece of schitt. 🤪

Pyle’s brain is probably fried from too many years of smoking dope and alcohol abuse. 🤪
