These is all the markings on it.

Seems like a 6 groove. It is stainless.
I have no clue but I think you need to work on your hammer technique.
I'd guess X-Caliber
0.2427" groove diameter. Six lands/grooves.
Would love to know the mfgr.

Toodogs is probably right. I've got several x-caliber barrel blanks and their marking method is different from the pic.. That's the thing, each manufacture has a slightly different marking system. Some use actual caliber designation ie. 6.5mm vs .264, or 270 vs .277 etc. Where the number "6" is on your barrel Jim, others put the twist rate. Can't imagine a 1:6 twist on a .243 barrel. Easy to check though.
No idea of the brand, but the 6 is for 6MM, and the actual groove diameter will be 0.2427". You could confirm that by driving a soft lead slug the length of the bore and measuring with a micrometer.

Oh, I didn't know what that meant.

I see it as .242 (tight 6mm) 7twist, 6 lands/grooves

Just a guess cuz your both in Montana.
The tight bore might be a better clue.

I think it is a Hart.
Posted By: rainshot Re: Help identifying a barrel - 11/07/22
It’s not a Shilen.

Check out the pic on this page. The layout of the numbers is the same, looks like Hart barrels.
https://rifleshooter.com/2015/03/hart-xm3-barrel/

Do a search for images of Hart barrel blanks, you'll find some more with the same layout.

That 7 at the end of the bore measurement is offset and might represent something else other than .0007" plus .242.

6mm Improved. I have a 700 long action that I bought from the fire that I am going to use.

Next thing I think will be a mediumish sporter 6mm Creedmoor.

You guys think its a 7 twist?
Posted By: Tyrone Re: Help identifying a barrel - 11/07/22
I don't think it's a button rifled barrel. I've never seen one labeled out to the 4th decimal place. I think it's a cut rifled barrel, like a Krieger.

What’s the measured twist?
Because that picture you just posted says 8 smile

Spook, if you can read all that from the stamps at the end of that piece of steel...... you can read between the lines, really good. Cause I dont see nothing but a mess! grin

(I do recognize the 277 and 284)

The 6 CM will have lots of brass and pretty easy to load for. Even the 243 or 6mm Rem. would work good. Lots of good bullets to choose from.
Wanted to check my stash to verify … but I’m 99% sure it’s a hart.

Excellent barrels.

That's good.

My gunsmith friend likes Lilja....so therefore I like Lilja.
Lilja sounds like the coolest barrel.

Either that or a rapper.
