These spectacle welcome homes?

Over think things on my part, a compulsion.

These military welcome home things?
Who the hell is so attention crazy they (the family?) Contacts the media,
A sports arena...to make a spectacle out of a long gone family member coming home. Screwing around with the kids for their own attention.

Been gone from my family for months,?I'm so happy to see them I ain't playing games with 100,000 people, hoping to be on the news.

They are meeting me at the first possible opportunity.
I'm hugging and kissing them, we are going home to be together.

My wife, would never consider even doing such a thing
Personally.
And dam sure wouldn't do it to me.

Hell, my own family wanted a surprise 50th birthday party for me.
They knew I would hate it, but wanted it. For them.

Mrs. Buck shut that BS off instantly.
We all went out for a quiet steak supper. No singing, no saddle...

Am I wrong?
Is there a reason for this except "Look at me!"?

Maybe you should actually join your family and friends for a change. Totally selfish and stupid to not want to see them. Hardly a "show" for a Bday party.

If you haven’t been there, meaning gone on deployment for 6-11 months, missing baby’s births, all kinds of holidays, baseball games, etc., you have no way to understand it. Especially if there’s some shooting involved.

I didn’t even know I had a new son until three days after the fact when the ship finally came out from under radio silence. Didn’t talk to my wife for two weeks after. Didn’t see him ‘til my wife, daughter (4) and the new little guy flew on their own from Memphis to Tokyo three months later.

Sometimes the ones on the evening news are a little overdone but all of ‘em tend to cause my allergies to act up a bit. BTDT too many times.

BTDT, Damn glad to see my family after Marg 1-83 off Beruit. Damn glad the Mrs. was standing on the dock with my parents after the Med cruise in early 86' (last Med Cruise) with quite a few weeks spent off Libya sending off sorties of AV-8B's and Cobra Gunships. I didn't care what kind of party they threw.
Navlav8r Thank you for your service, Salute!

It’s guaranteed to jerk a tear from my eyes every time I see young children crying tears of joy because daddy is FINALLY home. Young lovers, wives that miss their husbands, mothers and fathers that might’ve thought they’d never see their son again….I’m a sucker for real, genuine emotion and I ain’t too tough to admit that I always choke up at military homecomings.

I don’t think I would care to continue living if I’ve become so hardened to life and loss that I’m not moved by true expressions of love.

The welcome homes are real...if you've ever been in an exchange, in your cammies and some random young kid comes up and hugs your leg and shouts 'Daddy'...then a few seconds later a young widow removes the kid with tearful eyes...you appreciate every welcome home - regardless of venue.

See the ones at dock side, or at a hanger?
Absolutely. That's where I would want to be met,
how and where I would meet someone. Private reunion.
Chance to hug and cry happy tears without an audience.

The big productions?
First few I saw were touching.
Then it became a "thing".

Kinda like Jumbo-tron engagements.
Why?

Guess I'm just too low key and private to even understand the desire
for attention. Kinda try to stay un-noticed.

Or maybe I'm just too hard and cold.
Been accused before.
