Now, of course, my critique!
I remember most of these films. After all, I was a car guy, as was The Old Man. I saw a lot of these movies with Dad & Mom at the Drive in.
All in all pretty good review, but to leave out “The Blues Brothers”, I believe 1977, is a damn shame.

BTW, the 71 Galaxy 500 that Gator drove in “White Lightning” was exactly the same car as my first car, “Henry The Ford” , but Henry was a 4 door hardtop with a 351 Windsor as opposed to Burt’s Coupe with the 429.
But if you flipped the aircleaner lid, that 2 barrel 351 would give you that cha-whoosh sound that Burt’s 429 had! I guess it was the kick down on the accelerator pump.
Henry was known, and still remembered by my buddies for his hubcap tossing donuts, and his talent for jumping through covered bridges!
That was a fun time to be a teenager. I guess I'm lucky to still be around!

That was the first one that came to mind. 10 minutes of intro and an hour long car chase! Eleanor took a real beating!

Many tend to compare later chase scenes with the one in 1968's Bullitt but none come close.

Dirty Mary, crazy Larry is probably my favorite.

Hard to believe nobody has mentioned Smokey and the Bandit though

Not sure of the years these were made but Ronin and The 7UPS has few good chase scenes.
PJ
I think Ronin is mid-90s, but yeah…

“Diva” missed the 70’s by two years, but the chase scene in that movie is definitely in my all time top 3, the others being Bullitt and “To Live and Die in LA”

If you listen close, you’ll hear the sounds of the “Bullet” chase was reused in the “7 Ups” chase as well. The same guy did the driving in both movies too.
And that chase with the Ford pickup from “Mr Majestic” was used by FoMoCo in a commercial around ‘77 or ‘78.
It wasn’t on the list, but that corkscrew Bridge jump from “The Man With The Golden Gun” was a real stunt done at fairgrounds over the country. That’s why they used the AMC cars. They already had the weight figured out for that model of vehicle.

That was a white ‘67 Camaro that blew up.
Vanishing Point info
I believe they had an article about this in a car magazine that I used to read, but I’ll be damned if I can recall the name.
Maybe “Muscle Car Review”. Although Chrysler lent the cars for the film, I believe they were crushed on the return. Four 440 Challengers and a 383!
I can tell you that I’ve always loved those (I believe it was F body Mopars), The Challengers and the Plymouth ‘Cudas), beautiful cars. I damn near bought a ‘72 Cuda when I went in the Army, but with a wife and a kid, I didn’t want the payments, and settled for a ‘76 Nova instead.
I wished to hell I had over to do. Summa the decisions that I made then, looking back, weren't-what I shoulda done.

New Bullitt movie in the works!

Sources insist that this will not be a remake of the classic 1968 film, rather a new take on Frank Bullitt.
