I know they can track Santa Claus....can they also track turkeys?

The store over west can't get any Hutterite Turkeys this year.

Anyone know where on the HI Line to buy Hutterite Turkeys?

This is terrible. Butterball is NFG.

If you don't find what you're looking for this is a great tasting bird.

When they can get a dry, no-taste bird too top-heavy to fly to taste like ham, it might be worth eating one. Didn't a bunch of archaelogists find the leftovers from the Pilgrims's dinner, and it was actually bobcat, not turkey? Based on that finding, we should be eating poozy on Thanksgiving!

Them fookin Hoooterites are the devil, but they do raise tasty birds. Last I checked, the local purveyors of meat in Bozeman had loads of Hoot turkeys and they (used to, if they don't still do it) raise their turkeys near my cabin a few miles from White Sulphur Springs in Meagher County. Did they store you usually get them from give any details on why they can't get them?

Wedon't do the dirty bird for T-giving so I don't pay any attention to availability

Saw two semi's come by hauling live birds this morning. The grocery stores here have piles of them. .29-.39 lb. Some stores make you spend a few bucks on other things. Like that's a hard task....

From personal experience I've found $10 on the down-low goes a long ways when dealing with them Hooterites one on one.

Blackheart has killed every turkey he's eaten for thirty years using his boot string, a stick, and creek pebbles. Sack up

Now I’m interested in a Hutterite. Until now I’ve always bought whatever is the cheapest by the pound bird that I can find and assumed that they were all the same.

No particular reason given. I did read that some colonies had to destroy their entire flock because of bird flu.

Supply is low I guess.

I usually buy 6 or so. Two big ones for roasting and 4 smaller ones for brining and smoking.

A call placed to the Turkey Boss has yielded no results.

This is a disaster!
Posted By: JGray Re: Turkey Locater - 11/17/22
I've been hunting on a colony out of Choteau with a Hutterite friend and he's trying to get us a turkey. Their colony and the neighboring one have been sold out for a while now. He tried another colony to the north and they lost their entire flock to bird flu - 10k birds dead in one day.

Doesn't look like we'll be able to get one this year...

I think the bird flu scare made the hutterites euthanize a lot of their turkeys as well as chickens. Good luck in your search.

Off topic for the silly bullshit in this thread, but a great project for your kids next year, would be raising some fowl.

We’re going to cook a home raised turkey this year. Haven’t had one since our kids were in JML years ago. They are way better than any grocery bird.
Posted By: slumlord Re: Turkey Locater - 11/20/22
Have you thought about installing Linux ?

Might give it consideration
It’s all that and even has an app for locating fresh turkeys

We have some history with that. Grandpa used to raise a couple hundred a year and my Great Grandparents on dad's side raised about 400.

It was very common back in the day.

Got the killing cone in the barn yet.

But man oh man.....them Hoots do such a nice job....

Bottle of whiskey goes a long way with the colony.

You might check further west around great falls. The bird flue hit a few places this summer.

Off topic, but you live outside of White Sulphur Springs Montana?
and are a relocated Jewish Lawyer from the Bay Area?

Gotta give it to you Remsen... when you go for a change, you go ALL out...

There is a White Sulphur Springs in West Virginia where our family is originally from.. and I gotta admit, when you live in a town with the same name as something in West Virginia, and its a down grade by even West Virginia standards... you're really out in the middle of nowhere, in the lower economic scale.

West Virginia, where the governor's mansion is the nicest House Trailer in the entire state...
Posted By: Seafire Re: Turkey Locater - 11/20/22
Heck, if I need a turkey or two...

I'll just need to get up a little early, and load the 10/22 and go out in the backyard, or in the front yard.

Might have to pluck the darn things, but the price is cheap.
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: Turkey Locater - 11/20/22
Actually, its an 07 GMC Classic 3500 HD Diesel with 105,000 miles.

My buddy wanted to sell it to us before he shipped out to Japan for a 3 year tour.

He was originally just going to park it here, but decided he wanted to sell it so it would not just sit and rot.

We paid off his loan with Navy Federal and will make payments to him for the balance over the course of however many years.

Turned out pretty good. We were in desperate need of a pickup we could pull a trailer with...and he didnt want to go to Japan with a lot of debt.

jim conrad: IF... you think that Butterball Turkeys are "no friggin good" then YOU are cooking them wrong.
We just picked up a fresh 23.75 pounder and all in the family are anxiously awaiting Thursday!
We have been using/cooking/eating Butterball Turkeys for decades now and again I contend YOU are cooking them incorrectly if YOU are disappointed in them!
Hutterites were here in town last week with their "turkeys" but everyone I know who has tried them declares they are way over-priced and only so-so on the delectability scale.
I'll stick with the Butterball Turkeys thank you.

Butterball can be good.
No Hoots, won't pay th e scalpers prices the Mennonites get for their
"Special Orgasmic" turkeys. (Doubt the orgasmic claims)

Ones my Aunt raised were damn good.

Think the cooker is more important than the grower, but
a crappy bird can't be great and a great bird can be ruined.
