Usin "just a little" horseradish, is like usin "just a little" habanero.

It may still be palatable, but the core ingredient is lost.

It isn’t bad. I had no clue it was ‘vegan’ or even organic until yesterday munching on a steak and I glanced at the label. All I saw at the store was ‘steak sauce’ and it was quite a bit cheaper than A1, so I grabbed it.

Growing up I was an A-1 eater, now if the ribeye or porterhouse is salted and peppered before grilling I eat it as is. For me the flavor of the steak can stand alone really well. Horseradish might be something worth trying, would probably be a good addition

It’s real easy to make a diesel horseradish sauce with some basic stuff from one’s fridge and spice cabinet.

Yes, I consider it a ‘Steak Sauce’, in the same way an Alabama White sauce is BBQ sauce.

I’m with you. If the sauce comes out the steak is overdone or a poor cut and grade.

Don't like prime rib because they don't cook it done. whistle

As for steaks if the meat is good to start with with it should not need any sauce.

The only reason the sauces were made was to cover up the bad tasting meat back when.

As for steaks if the meat is good to start with with it should not need any sauce.

The only reason the sauces were made was to cover up the bad tasting meat back when.

Never understood the need for any kind of sauce on a good steak that’s been cooked properly.

Which for me is medium rare, just slightly bloody, with black pepper and garlic on it.

As said, a good steak does not need steak sauce nor syrupy barbecue sauce.

I'll side with a thick steak, medium rare or a bit redder, with coarse black pepper, Johnnie's seasoning salt and maybe a whiff of garlic.

I like it mostly on burgers, wings, smoked meatloaf, pork, and grilled veggies. Since you've tried it exactly never, I'll likely take your post lightly or not at all....no offense.

I like the Dales steak sauce.

Good for hamburger steaks.

Lea And Perrins used to make a steak sauce.

Haven’t seen it in the Walmarks lately, maybe they stopped making it.

I like horseradish, just not on prime rib and don't understand why anybody thinks the most expensive part of the beef needs hot sauce.
Posted By: mathman Re: Steak Sauce - 11/21/22
No sweat.

I admit I come on strong in my rantings about hydrolyzed soy protein posing as soy sauce. grin

But honestly, I promise you can build a better version of that flavor profile by starting with real brewed soy sauce as a base and adding the ginger, garlic and whatever else I'm forgetting.

Completely unrelated…. 😉

When I was a cook at a steakhouse we would get orders for a fillet, not only to be cooked extra well done, but also butterflied. It also seemed to be popular with those south of the border.

There are sauces that are nice with steak that didn't strictly need sauce.

Mmmm, a good Bearnaise is fantastic, with beef.

Applesauce with pork.

Mint sauce with fatty lamb.

Complementary, not contrasting, for the most part.

This. Especially cooked on pit with mesquite wood or pecan.

I like horseradish and the affiliated sauces. Better with a pot roast than a steak IMO.

I’ve been making chimichurri quite a bit lately. Been getting sirloin cap cuts. Leave a big fat cap on to render on the grill. Super tasty and the chimi goes great with it.

I eat way too much beef and use all different kinds of seasoning/sauce. The tri-tip was from the grocery store and they are usually good.

Mostly just a salt and pepper affair, and sometimes nothing at all but variety is good IMO.

Used ketchup when I was a kid on the burned dried out meat mom made. Didn’t know anything different.

Now, it’s the seasoning salt and fat in the bottom of the pan that gets poured back on the meat.

But I’m no foodie. smile

When I was a young teenager, my sister was a waitress at a local restaurant (Frisch's Big Boy). I'd stop by and get the grilled cheese and fries and dip them both in a mixture of A1 and tartar sauce. Best and only use I've had for it.
