I'm sure you were there.
Who was your favorite band?
Posted By: Valsdad Re: Woodstock - 11/21/22
Too young,

would have had to run away from home and travel 3000 miles to get there.

They were all "favorites" but this song ranks right up there with the top of the crop

Wasn't there but ... wasn't Jefferson Airplane there? I think they were sooooo ... probably them, for me back then.

Was decade before I was even born but looking at the line up and given whom I'd enjoy today -

CCR
Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Johnny Winter
Hendrix

I detested the hippies then even worse than now...the memories of the protesters outside the gate at Travis AFB as we returned home pretty well cured me of the whole 60's culture and every thing they supposedly stood for. F...k 'em all, the long, short and tall.

Alvin Lee is a great pick, Geno.

I'm undecided between Joe Cocker and Santana.
Posted By: simonkenton7 Re: Woodstock - 11/21/22
I wasn't there, but I was at the Atlanta Pop Festival, one month earlier. We had 300,000 people and a lot of big groups. Butt we didn't get a movie, so our Pop Festival is lost to history.

Carlos Santana claimed in an interview that he was scheduled to go on later in the day so he decided to drop a tab of acid. He did just that, then shortly told to get ready, he was on stage now.

Carlos trippin during his performance, so the interview claimed.

Check it out at about the 0:48 mark and tell me if you think it's true.

Then watch this interview and listen to the part about his guitar neck:

Had no time or tolerance for that crap.

Was working ( at Texas Dept Public Safety) my way through college AND beginning a new job at the Graduate Research Center Of the Southwest

Was literally "stuck in the mud" at our farm near Cut n' Shoot, Tx.......

but did get the chance to see him at his 50th anniversary, Alice's Restaurant Tour at the 1894 Grand Theater in Galveston Texas.

He had some interesting tales in that regard.

I was living nearby and friends asked me if I wanted to go with them, but I said no. I didn't want to give up a couple days of work.

Watched the TV news coverage, with the rain, the mud and the traffic jams.

Thought I'd made the right call.

The next summer, 1970, we had our second Atlanta Pop Festival, I saw Jimi Hendrix play The Star Spangled Banner at midnight on the Fourth of July.
It is all a little hazy, I think I was in an altered state.

'69? I was still in High School and didn't know it was happening until after the fact.

Favorite act there? That's easy, Jimi. Carlos would be the runner up.

I missed it, but didn't miss the little dinks that were shooting at me. That said, miniguns, M60s and HE makes for a loud and colorful concert in its own right.

I would have loved to see Hendrix play.

Was there in a sense we were staying at top hill bungalow colony about a quarter mile away. I was 8 years old and all the mothers had locked up us kids under 12 together to keep us safe from the freaks and the drugs. Heard the music no problem and remember the rain. It sucked being locked up but nothing like the devastation and destruction that remained the rest of the summer. Yet they're all Tesla driving green energy environmentalists today.

There were zapped out freaks wondering around for days afterwards begging for food. Yeah not attractive at all, that whole scene became repulsive to me. I completely agree with flintlocke F them all. They screamed the loudest back then and became total fascists exactly what they were "rebelling" against. One of my sisters friends found a beagle puppy that some scumbag gave acid to and the dog was a mess for weeks but did pull through. They were the lowest of the low scum and nothing to be admired or remembered fondly. Gutless turds who refused to serve yet they felt they were righteous enough to harass service men coming home.

I'm betting many there that day turned 30 and and became Republicans. Being 20, getting loaded, enjoying good music, and chasing tail was the downfall of our way of life?

Was a senior in high school, graduating in 1970. I enjoyed the Album after it came out, and liked a lot of the music...

but glad I wasn't there.. although a batch of my friends and me were headed that way...

On one part of the album, so announcer said " The New York state Thru is closed Man! " That is where we were...

Turned around and went back to Virginia.

Never had much use for hippies, even back then.

Did have a soft spot tho for some of those hippie gals. Learned a lot about sex from some of those gals...

and 69 was a GREAT YEAR!

and Favorite Group at Woodstock? My favorite group of that time period and my favorite of all time... CCR!

Wasn’t there. Friends and I decided to go but waited too long. Could not even get near the place. People everywhere. Saw plenty of bouncing boobies along the road though. Finally just left and went home to drink. 1969 was a great year though.

I attended the 1999 version. It was a schitt show of epic proportion. But I’m still glad I attended.

My last dance with hallucinogens in the form of massive amounts of real-deal, blue and gray mushrooms.

There was too much to see. In more ways than one, lol.

Entertainment was going twenty four hours a day at stages literally miles apart. You had to pick and choose where you wanted to try to be for what performance and when.

Rage Against The Machine, and Metallica on Saturday night at the West (or Main) stage were particularly impressive. But I was so fugged up I thought we were all going to die anyway. So, it was tough to ‘enjoy’.

Anyway, we delivered The Bomb.

lol

Kid Rock turned my head, among maybe a few others, because I went into it at that time thinking he was a joke.

He put on a really great show.

I hear microdosing is all the rage now.

All done with Psilocybin and LSD after that. Had my fun. Can’t even smoke weed anymore. I was 28 at that time, and I had already had enough to tap out.

Micro or macro, matters not.

No such thing as fun micro dosing.

It may work but it’s not as much “fun” if you know what I mean, man.

And if you don’t know what I mean, you wouldn’t know what I mean, man.

I was a bit too young to go then, but hunt very close to that spot each year now.

Saw Ten Years After at the Filmore East a little after their Woodstock performance. Great show.

NVhunter: No I wasn't there - but in later years I got paid handsomely to "police" several of the bands/performers who were "woodstockies"!
Including:
Credence Clearwater Revival
Jimi Hendrix
Joan Baez
Country Joe And The Fish
Grateful Dead
Crosby, Stills Nash & Young
Janis Joplin (was on her personal protection/escort detail and she gave me a large Canada Dry Frisbee - I enjoyed her singing/concert performance greatly)
Sad that many of the original woodstockies turned druggies and departed early.
