Makes me remember how much I love my circular saw!

When's the last time you saw a carpenter use a hand saw? Candid camera was a great show, I loved it as a kid. They had a lot of good stuff.

That was my first thought, too. Today it would be a cordless circular saw.

Every carpenter should learn to use a hand tool first, before they are cut loose with a power tool... just an opinion.

One of the best things about working construction with a great crew is the pranks played on each other.

I was known to use one for just a cut or two - quicker than running out an extension cord.
Even in the 80's & 90's. I knew many who could NOT cut straight, to save their lives. (Some even with a circular saw)


When is the last time you saw a saw sharpening shop?
Do sharpening services even exist anymore?

I have a handsaw in the work truck that probably still has the new shine on it. Circular saws, table saws, chop saws, jig saws, oscillating multi-tools etc etc etc all make for more precise or faster cuts. However, the coping saw is still a favorite when installing crown molding.

I build composite canoes now, but seats are wooden, and I need to do repairs on older models. The Japanese hand saw is my friend!

I haven't seen on in a long time. There is a guy around here that will sharpen chainsaw chains but I'm pretty good myself so I sharpen my own chains. The same with circular saw blades. I bought a cheap harbor freight sharpener and it works wonderful. The blades I was throwing away a 10 years ago now just get resharpened.

Yep. My Father was a brilliant carpenter whether it was a room addition, kitchen cabinets or furniture. He served many of the wealthy in town delivering their often clueless desires helping them land on what they really wanted.

I saw that episode 50 or so years ago. It was funny then and now.

We convinced a young guy on my crew that electricity wouldn’t go through a cord if it had any knots in it
Had another guy, who was out of sight, at the receptacle plugging in and unplugging the cord

There's one hanging on the side of the camper shell on my work truck that I use quite often, though not regularly. I can whip it out and do a quick cut before I can plug in my circular saw. I used to carry a battery-powered circular saw, but the batteries died and I haven't replaced it, so the handsaw gets the easy jobs.
