C96 Mauser. Just pulled it off the interweb. I don’t know anything about the provenance of the photo. But I’m gonna guess maybe post-war German Freicorps ??? Shooting at Commies, maybe?

Yes, there are stirrups on the saddle. Look close. It is sideways to camera. Hard to see
