To my friends and compatriots of the ‘Campfire!
The Christmas Rifle
I know that this story has been posted here before. I believe I first read it in 02.
But I put it up last year, and was surprised at the number of members, long time members, who had never seen it!
Regardless, it’s one of my favorite stories, although it still plays hell with my allergies. I believe that it captures what we as Christians should practice every day.
God bless each of you with a Merry Christmas and a great New Year!

New to me. Defines life's priorities. Beautiful.

My God bestow angels upon all of us. Or deputize us as angels.

Thanks for sharing again this Christmas season. Set the story in the early 1940’s and my dad could be Jake Jensen. The kindness of neighbors kept he, my grandmother and his siblings from starving after his father died when he was 5.

Bump, for those who may have missed it.
This story ranks right up there with “‘Twas The Night Before Christmas” as far as holiday reading.
Merry Christmas my friends, and remember that “There’s a Reason for the Season”!
May you and your’s have a happy and safe holiday!

You know something?
I was never allowed to have a BB gun as a kid!
I got my first .22 at 9, for Christmas, and a single shot H&R 20 gauge the following year.
But The Old Man had an auto salvage, and BB guns would spall or crack glass, and Dad was afraid of us ruining the windshields and stuff! eek
Of course, there were other perks to having a salvage. My brothers and I got to drive around at age 10!
I had a ‘64 Falcon that was mine, and Gue, my younger brother had a Maverick. We drag raced in a field, and had car chases all over the place! (We had to desist in the summertime on account of the dust, and clothes hanging out on the lines)
I wouldn’t trade my life then, for that of a Prince.
Who the hell needs a freakin BB gun, anyway?
Damn, thinking back, I think .22s were maybe a buck for a box of 50!

Dad was a terrible shopper. 4 pairs of shoes and some candy do not equal a rifle. Sorry, I know I am ruining the spirit of the thing.
