They can call it gaining traction but it's like climbing a steep icy hill with bald tires. It's not going to happen. However, some Idaho legislators have called for Idaho to at least take a look at it. But, there's no possible way that the OR legislature would ever give up all those millions of acres. It would also cost OR a house seat. However, that seat is currently held by a Republican and I'm guess that's unlikely to change.

The Idaho Legislature may soon ask its neighbors to the west to join a conversation about absorbing some of its counties.

Rep. Judy Boyle, R-Midvale, on Wednesday introduced a joint memorial that would ask the Democrat-dominated Oregon Legislature to discuss the Greater Idaho movement with the Idaho Legislature.

The movement seeks to secede eastern Oregon counties from their state and join Republican-led Idaho, which, supporters say, better aligns with their political ideals.

“Eastern Oregon has been quite unhappy with their state,” Boyle told the House State Affairs Committee. “Portland seems to be able to run everything there.”
County secession would require support from the Oregon and Idaho legislatures as well as Congress.

“Is it a long shot? Probably,” Boyle said. “But how will we know if we never start?”

Eleven Oregon counties in recent years have voted to support the Greater Idaho movement in some fashion, such as directing their local officials to hold meetings or allowing them to use taxpayer money to explore the idea.

Morrow and Wheeler counties in November approved ballot measures that showed support for the move. After those votes, Greater Idaho leader Mike McCarter called on western Oregon to “stop holding our counties captive in this unhappy marriage.”

“Actually, it’s not even as dramatic as a divorce because we’re not breaking up a family,” McCarter said in a news release.
I'd love to see it happen
I'd not like to see it happen. Bad enough with all the Californians moving in already. Let then split Oregon into East and West.
It would be interesting to see poll results from her Midvale constituents.
Hopefully she won't be relected
Next do Illinois. Chitcago dictates what happens in Illinois and I know for a fact that southern Illinois is conservative!
pipe dream

This would be the better option and akin to the D’s wanting to give DC its own representatives. It would add a couple Senators and possibly two Congressmen/women. Likely they would be very red.

Ammon Bundy would probably move over and run for Governor. 🐑

But it’ll never happen.

That's exactly why OR and congress would never allow it to become 2 states. If it joined ID, it would likely give 1 of OR's congressmen to ID but there wouldn't be any additional red senators.
Well since Californians are now overtaking Idaho, these Oregon counties might want to reconsider.
Hah! If they get to do that the Minnesotans gets to draw a north south line border to border along the western suburbs of Minneapolis and everything west of that line becomes joins Dakotas. Fair is fair.

Osky
There needs to be action taken to halt this craziness because Californians are now overtaking Idaho.

I would prefer to see the line around Mille Lacs. Everything South goes to Iowa or one of the Dakotas.
It's not a geographic problem, it's an ideological one. Dividing geographically only prolongs the inevitable. Sooner or later there needs to be an ideological reckoning.
A lot of dumb chit gets posted on the fire; this is just more in a long list that seems to be the norm now.
"Sooner or later there needs to be an ideological reckoning."

Awakening. Spiritual and rational.
