I'm going to assert that at least the photographer has seen one, yes.
Not in that configuration, but very fancy. No bucket... they were running a big bunch of them up here several years back.

I've seen the truck before but not rigged like that. The 2 I've seen had low sidewall dump beds on them.
There are a lot of them in Africa. Not sure but seem to recall the UN using them a lot. With no axle straight across from hub to hub, they have incredibly high clearance, great for deep mud and bad roads. I considered buying a used one several years ago for my bush rig but was concerned about getting parts for it.
Hells Yeah! One of the best vehicles ever made for civilian or military use. It's a Lego truck that can be anything you want it to be.

Must have gotten up real early this morning.
Happy birthday Rocky!
One of the ways I take home from work, a guy has one. Bucket and all. Doesn't move much. Always been tempted to stop and see if he wants to get rid of it.
They break down alot..

They are called a CEE
Combat Engineer Excavator.
Unimog is a generic term for a family of balloon tire vehicles similar to that of German design or manufacture.

Most CEE,s have the bucket taken off to be more maneuverable in restrictive terrian and only have the rear bucket for digging.

Get your crew served wpns postions IE 240,s and Javelins dug in 1st with them.
Then if your lucky your plt cp hole
Then onto indivual buddy team holes.
Might as well be smoking dope outta a water bong hoping for all of that to happen 🤣🤣🤣
Good luck getting more than 6 to 8 hrs out of one max before it pukes hydro system wise.
Every fuuuking time.....

If ya have a Hystru trailer and contact truck on site to support the thing hose fabrication wise and mechanical failure wise.
They might be able to keep one working.

Never have seen either accompany a CEE when you are told you have engineer support to put in a defense .

Usually their is a collective groan when told you have CEE support to dig in.
Then ya see the CEE drive up in your AO gawd knows when.
And ya already been digging with pioneer tools for hours.
The operator knows it is gonna puke eventually
The Infantry guys know it is gonna puke eventually.
And their are talks between the engineers and infantry about it.

Literally have seen Rock, paper, scissors between PL,s at opords and frago,s on which platoon is gonna get the CEE 1st.
🥴🥴🤣🤣🤣
This is how you feel when your PL doesn't win 1st with the CEE
😖😖😖

Because all 3 platoons leadership know which ever platoon gets it 1st might get their crewserved positions dug with it.
Then it's gonna puke.
Then it's Debbie Downer time when word spreads the CEE puked.
Of course it did with the usual bitter laughing associated with it.

And you just keep on digging with you d handle and pick axe like normal.

Best thing that can happen to any CEE is they drive into a blast furnace and get made into d handle shovels and pick axes.

CEE,s are the ultimate false hope jedi mind fuuuk.....

🥴🥴🤣🤣🤣
You Toob Search Results On Unimog Configurations.

Neighbor has one outfitted with a water tank and pump for use on forest fires locally, its a pos.
Lol!!!

If anyone wants to have "The CEE Experience".
Which is no way remotely similar to The Jimi Hendrix Experience at all.....

Just go to a kids water park fully clothed with a Kpot on.
And substitute all the water flying everywhere haphazardly with Hydraulic fluid.

🤣🤣🤣

Part of the reason I haven't stopped to ask. Looks cool but doesn't move much. I just don't know enough about them.
Yep, They have offset gear reduction portal axles under them.
Guys that build uber-serious rock crawlers like to make their builds with them.
But all they want are the axles.

I was at Lewis across our motor pool was the triple nickel
Mp and they had a chit load of those thangs and they never moved. They are a mechanics nightmare as others said always breaking down. So what’s the best way not to have a deadline vehicle?? Easy don’t use it. Invasion of Iraq 2003 we saw them in action digging holes for piss tubes.
UNIMOG is the name Mercedes uses to market their UNIMOG line of trucks.

CEE,s belong on the Island of Misfit/ Broken Toys...

^^^^^
Need to add a extra line to that song.

"And a Broke Dick CEE for Joe".

🥴🥴🤦‍♂️🤣😔🤣🤣🤣
Here’s a unimog axle conversion. They are really popular even here in the US.

Edited to say *UCK SPELLCHEzcK
Was licensed to operate those back in the day. As others have said, maintenance nightmares. Not only hydraulically, but the drive train was suspect. Parked one on an incline, next time it went into gear the u-joint snapped. Hell of a ride on the highway, though, felt like cruising in a bouncy castle. Glad they replaced them with the HMEE.

As an added bonus they sometimes came with hydrolic tools that didn't work.

Every see a hydrolic chainsaw?

As Rene said, don't get your hopes up!

Good morning sir, I hope you all slept well and it's as mild up north as it is down here.

Funny I always thought that a Unimog would be the ultimate hunting rig until a few years back when I was managing that storage facility that used to be behind the Can Tire in Penticton - where I had a '60's Unimog stored.

My goodness it was something.

Have you sat in your neighbor's?

This one was a tight fit for me and as you know, I'm no giant! laugh

It was also a workout with a built in sobriety test just climbing in or especially getting out...

The turn radius was pretty big too I thought.

Anyways color one of my dreams shattered 673... no German "wunder wagon" for me.

All the best to you all this weekend.

No, I never sat in it, but I have worked around it a couple times in an emergency situation.
They crawl good, but with all the weight of the tank up high, I stayed clear in case of a flop over, which would then become a rolling and tumbling situation.
I can think of better rigs for the purpose.

The war in Iraq did have a few good things happen. One it forced the us army to modernize and chit can a bunch of worthless chit.

Good one Rocky.😀 And happy birthday!!
Ham radio friend in Phoenix bought one and outfitted it with vintage military communications gear. Took it up I17 to the Flagstaff hamfest years ago. Overheating and 25mph uphill north of Camp Verde. It was cool to look at and work the radios but not practical. He eventually sold it.
Mercedes bought the company years ago.
Westphalia……..the ones that made campers oat of VW busses……made them for Unimog too.

Sold in the states under Allis maybe?
I always liked the Pinzgauer.

Same kinda thing.

Used one to retrieve a Hartsman zebra in the mountains of Namibia. A beast.
Higginez;
Good afternoon to you my cyber friend, I trust the weekend has been going smoothly for you all.

We made it up to the "big city" of Kelowna north of us, survived a Costco run and have returned home in more or less one chunk.

One of my hunting mentors had one of these.

[Linked Image from i.ytimg.com]

His was painted a bright red or maybe orange, can't remember that detail.

It was capable of going almost anywhere, but surely didn't get there fast.

I think it was powered by a little 2 cylinder air cooled gas motor that looked sort of VW beetle-esque.

He didn't have it very long and I really should have bought it when he sold it, but then if I had it'd be parked in the yard under a car cover like the rest of the "too many" rigs that live here already, you know?

All the best.
