Honestly, I’ve never listened to (or watched) Gwen until this thread popped. Lovely gal, with a nice little rasp in her voice. Don’t care much for that song posted by the OP, but might check out some more.
Hoffs is a longtime favorite. She’s 60-something now, and has held up well. Those eyes!
There are so many good and beautiful singers out there now, a feller could go blind (!) trying to watch them all.
A pox on whoever posted Cher videos here! Can’t stand that mega-lib skank.
As a teen - I definitely remember Hoffs/Bangles etc but Gwen and the music of the 90's was the music of my late teens and just Gwen comes out on top for me.
That so-cal female look she had - was perfect and on point for the times. I also admit - I find the female grunge era to be something I enjoy more than a little bit and want back. (I'd put Dolores O'Riordan on the menu too)

All would make the compass point north. Not that Hoffs is somehow not hot/great - just that she's not the soundtrack of my greatest memories and thus, not on my radar.

Don't want to leave out Shirley (I saw more than one "self employed model and dancer" use this song in their "performance art" after paying a heavy cover and 2 drink minimum)
Didn't Blake Shelton leave Miranda Lambert for Gwen Steffani? Blake Shelton started working with Steffani on The Voice and I guess they started fooling around.
This is the sneakiest Boomer vs Gen X thread ever. Lol
I wasn't gonna say it. But the 90's are the last great decade.
I agree!
We will never see another time when you have great bands like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, STP, Smashing Pumpkins, I hate to say Nirvana (not my fav from that era), I'll throw Pearl Jam in there....RATM, Pantera, Tool, Faith no More, REM, Type o Negative.....I could name a bunch others. We havent had much if anything to compare to that the last 25 years.

Agreed - 90% of my satellite radio time is spent on Lithium and 90's on 9.

Great list! I'd add Primus, Beastie Boys Sabotage era, Rage Against the Machine, The Offspring and a handful of others.
Linda had some game back in the day with that song. This was 56 years ago. Context is everything when making comparisons of women at their prime. Although the Prince Valiant thing was pretty funny...even if she is 76 and has Parkinsons
Would have said Gwen from ‘95 to ‘99 or so. Her style was right up my alley but would I’d be singing Oh Susanna from 03 until now. She’s a stunner for over 60.
Something about GS marrying Blake Sheldon makes me think she’s a bit of a head case. Never understood that relationship.
Have you seen Linda lately??? She is reported to have killed the Lord of the Rings series by apparently eating Samwise.
Looks like William Shatner playing Prince Valiant
LMAFO Hoffs by a mile.
Linda had a great sound and versatility of material going for a long time. Since then, severe illness of the neurological sort has been very rough on her abilities and countenance. Saddening.
Only here can we go from debating 2 hot chick rockers to a bald guy and Linda Ronstadt.
Stay tuned for CCCCCCCCCC to bring up his favorite Pan Flute peter puffer
Slumlord the attention-whore is the only peter puffer identified so far - how could he be a favorite anywhere?
It got your fàggot french horn blowing attention and you swallowed the treble hook Goal achieved DUMMMMASSS
As much as you crave it, you don't "get attention", and certainly not mine. What you do is generate disgust - way past feeling sorry for you and your compulsive nature. You are the one swallowing. When you start up your vulgar crud and are stupid enough to bring my name into it, you are going to get slammed. That's simply the adopted policy - nothing personal.
Read this swamplord - the same goes for your addiction. slumlord has been the bigger attention whore so far, but you may be gaining on him.
You are both like disgusting little adolescents - need a whippin' now and then.

Yet he has your attention??
Nope - don't follow his threads or post on them - go see for yourself. Just following the strict policy and protocol for when he makes a personal jab. If he would clean up his act and shut up, there would be none.

Eric Clapton is ok, he’s no Synyster Gates and I’m actually partial to Steve Winwood but I’m a millennial so what do I know?
Never appreciated Chris Cornell when he played the double set at Lollapalooza after Rage “raged” out but in hindsight his vocal range and sound is pretty awesome. Eddie Vedder I could take or leave in the 90’s but after Into The Wild came out I started revisiting and like a lot of his stuff. Rag’n’bones and some of the new bluesy stuff is good, dead down south,
Heck I even like Newsboys and Crowder then jam out on Lumineers for hours or Gaslight Anthem. Otis is almost a God in my house. Plus the millennials get to claim singers like this:
British Invasion punk even Sex Pistols, Meh, alright. NOFX, Misfits, Suicide Machines that’s more punk than Sid Vicious could dream of.
Chris Stapleton, boomers probably love him, also my generation though.
More to this thread, No Doubt was ok in their time and space. It’s not generationally transcendent music though.
Who thought Simon and Garfunkel would have a cover so close to the combined melody of the original “Sound of Silence” yet Disturbed doesn’t have 2 vocalists and last I knew the band didn’t hate each other. The Boxer? Mumford and Sons were pretty damn close to as good. I won’t go as far as to say replacements but pretty close and a lot of hits together without despising each other.
I like everything 30s and onward in the right atmosphere but most of the early stuff that’s been covered the covers are close to equal or much better in some cases.
Blake Shelton was ok back in his early career. He did cover Black Crowes Angels and as hard a task as that was he didn’t suck. He wasn’t Chris Robinson but for a twangy country singer he covered a lot of the vocal range clean.
Even the Grinch soundtrack has a cover that’s better than the original:
Pete Steele was pretty great in the 90’s but you don’t hear much about Type O these days.
Blood for blood was great for the NE Hardcore scene but he went to prison for sleeping with a minor.
Dropkick has most of the Irish classics covered but on a dreary spring day Kevin McKrell of The McKrells playing at Parting Glass in Saratoga is as good as it gets. Angry stadium energy he’d be awful but DKM would blow it away.
All situational and not a Boomer vs. Millenial thing. Technically, think it would be a Gen X vs. Gen Y /ME/Millenial thing but I’d still stand on all situational. Horde Tour near Woodstock, Neil Young was great. Willie Nelson covering Goth, not so much.

the original video of Gwen with No Doubt. She was amazing. awesome in the blue dress and still sexy in the live portion with sweat pouring off of her. So were many of the others that were posted.
but, have to go with Hoffs. She casts a spell on everyone with those eyes. Beautiful woman when she was young and very beautiful now.
