RIP Larry. A cowboy before helmets, armored vests, purple shirts and earrings.

One of my boyhood hero's , got to meet him a few times as a youngster and he always had time to speak to and offer encouragement to us rodeo wannabes.

I remember Larry put rodeo on the map years ago. He was THE STAR. Nice guy too. RIP.

We all knew his name, just like Babe Ruth.

Passing of a man worthy of our respect. RIP

I saw him a couple of times at the Snake River Stampede.

He was the face of Rodeo for years. Just like Trevor Brazile and Stetson Wright are now.

My father used to work cattle every spring and fall for 10 days to two weeks with Larry Mahan and Jim Bob Altizer on a big ranch near our home. Hard working honest men.

Oh my hell, purple shirts! You dipshit. If you really knew anything about Larry Mahan, you would know he was just as flamboyant as Sid and Rocker ever were and caught as much hell for his long hair. Same thing could be said about Tibbs and Shoulders in their time. It’s the man, not the color of his shirt or length of his hair.

Damn, my mother dated Larry , after my Dad died in 69, one fine fella and very dedicated athlete.

Got to see him at Bob Hays western wear in Alice TX back in 78-79.

Long hair? I wish I still had some of it.

He pretty much paved the way for others in the sport to build a brand.

Buy stock in the Rocker brand while it’s cheap.

Sorry to hear about Larry Mahan. I met him once in the commissary at MGM, having lunch. He seemed like a very nice, outgoing person. He was there talking with a producer about something. Just guessing, it might have been about being a technical advisor on a picture that MGM was filming.

As for supreme rodeo performers, don't forget about this great rodeo cowboy, Jim Shoulders.

He was a good guy. My thoughts: He was a showmen, people wanted to see a rodeo, he gave it his best they saw one.

That cowboy is resting now. No hurting joints and no sore back.

Early 90’s. The t-shirts were for a bar match/calcutta. Tony from the Red Carpet made a pocket full of money that day.
