Those are a variety of honey bee I've seen in Mexico.

Instead of wax hives, they have paper hives, but they produce honey, just like our honey bees do. I've even eaten some of the honey down there, and seen their hives, and am 100% sure that is what your photos are.

It would seem those paper hive honey bees are wetbacks...

I looked for more info on what I saw down by Monterey, and they are calling them "Mexican honey wasps"...

Your location in S. Texas makes me even more sure that is what you had there.

I guess they are starting to get more common in S. Texas.

We're starting to see some southern fauna moving further north into the hill country. We've been seeing lots of Caracara (Mexican Eagles) at our hill country lease. Never used to see any years ago,
