I'm shocked to see what cast lead bullets are fetching in price these days and the price lead suppliers are charging for the element is robbery. It's amazing that going market value for lead is about .97 cents per pound. Good grief suppliers like Roto Metals think the stuff must be silver for what they're asking for their lead. Unreal.

Bankers print money out of thin air and "loan" it out at interest or pay off their personal debt. What did you think would happen.

it's the Kung Flu/chiner joe effect.

I get inflation but why are vendors asking 3 times market value price?
Posted By: Theoldpinecricker Re: Lead prices - 08/01/23
Gold doesn't go for 3x it's spot price yet base metals are going for far more than market value. Seems like more than inflation is at play

Well some alloy does have a hint of silver in it.....

FWIW I've had good luck in the classified ads on the cast Bullet Forum

There’s a large metal salvage yard near me that allows customers to buy recycled lead. I bought 500# some years ago. I’m glad I did as wheel weights are now mostly zinc. I should be good for the remainder of my days. The only problem is I add about 3% tin to get better flowability when casting. I don’t have a whole lot of that.

There’s only one lead smelter left in the US and the liberals have been trying to shut it down for years. They are the dumbest people on this or any other planet.

Find a boat repair shop that's parting out a retired sailboat- - - - -there's a huge amount of lead in the keel area, and it's possible to make a pretty good deal on the scrap.

I don't believe there's any lead smelters operating in the US at this time, perhaps I'm mistaken. I've worked at a lead/silver mine and there's literally one of these 200yds from my home in my backyard as it were. They mine a lot of lead locally but the nearest smelter is in Trail B.C.

For the past 5 years lead spot price has ranged from $.72 to $1.12 per pound and right now is under a dollar. About what I have seen for the duration... I picked up about 400 pounds a couple weeks ago at a garage sale. And about 500 pounds of spotted metal... Cost me less than a dime a pound.

That is about how I see it here also.

Middlesex Metals is the local scrapper here. They are also the only yard I know of that will sell to the public... lead, brass casings, SS, aluminum, dimensional steel.

I am out of the game on lead, but still have friends that drip a ton or two of shot every year...

They get their lead on the sly from a fella at the landfill (FYI... he still has both thumbs for now).

Besides... OBiden has banned lead... ya bunch of felons...

Osamie closed the last primary lead smelter plant in the US in his first term. All that is left now is recycling plants that take old batteries and recycle the lead.

Find a roofing company that does a lot of flat roofs. When they tear out a drain on an old roof, it's usually flashed with lead. It all ends up in dumpsters.

We can thank Obama for the prices of lead these days. It's just another small contribution to socialism he left in his wake. his EPA shut down lead smelts all around the nation.

I don’t pretend to know nderstand the metals market. I remember a year and r two back, silver dropped to around $4-$5 an ounce. I looked and looked and could never find any I could buy for less than 4 times that price.

Actually it started in California, pre Obama, when their politicians found out people were capable of making bullets out of automotive wheel weights. The Arnold signed the lead ban into law. Obozo just put another nail in the coffin.

There are ways to get it that are still free but involve more than just giving your credit card number out.
