Bellamy Brothers, Old Hippie V3.

At 72, being saved, sometimes shaved and mostly well-behaved, I can relate to each version.......

Just spent a month recovering from flipping a 4 wheeler and getting pinned under it while dragging up a hoglet I shot while thermal hunting.

A few years ago I would have bounced. This last time I went SPLAT!

Feeling older by the day!

Willie wants to be rolled up and smoked when he dies.

I've told my buds that if they find that I've assumed ambient temperature in the deer stand, just roll me out and let the hogs recycle me.

considering how many of them I've eaten and recycled....

Seems like it would be good Karma!

No idea you were that experienced.

53 here. When Old Hippy came out, 35 was OLD to me.
72 doesn't seem so old now!

Hippy was a slur in our world growing up.
Still is among compatriots.
When I get shaggy, someone will call me a Hippy.

How many of those griping about New Country are Bellamy Bros fans?
They aren't and never were country.
(Have been a fan for a long time)

I'm experienced enough to remember signing up for the draft when I turned 18,

and being able to sing along to every word of Alice's Restaurant..........

As an aside: I never had to do the "Group W Bench".

BTW,

I was not a left wing lib even then. I was just a crazy kid wanting to get high, chase women and surf!

IIRC the mantra was "why change dicks in the middle of a screw, vote for Nixon in '72.

I did vote for Nixon.

I have seen them 20 times if not more. Still have great voices, put on a no BS show. They sing, don’t talk, play the songs like they were recorded. Excellent musicians. I highly recommend them.

Is there a CD out with that song about no country music ? I can't find it for sale anywhere except the streaming services.
Posted By: BillyGoatGruff Re: Bellamy Brothers - 08/06/23
Saw them 20 years ago or so live at an outdoor concert. First time I ever heard an artist sound as good in person as they did on record. I dig their music whatever label you apply to them.

Thanks for posting that one GW ! Great song and I’ve never heard that one before, either. Always liked the Bellamy Brothers. And John Anderson too.

Sorry to hear about your 4-wheeler crash. Hope you are doing well now.

they tour here in Oklahoma every year. The last two concerts have been free outdoor concerts at one of the casinos. Always well worth attending.

One of my faves from the Bellamy Brothers has always been "If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?".

Here you go!

For my 18th birthday my dad got me 2 tickets to go see them in Sioux Falls. My buddy and I loaded some beers up and went. We stashed a bunch of beer into our coats and every other place we could come up with. When we walked in it was a benefit for the police. Cops were everywhere! We did manage to sneak a few during the concert.

When I was a school principal for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw, we were sent to Santa Fe for a training session. They had the table next to us. I was the only educated redneck in the crowd who knew who they were. Down to earth Florida cowboys and ranchers. Very nice. If I remember correctly, New Mexico had adopted their song Santa Fe or some such occasion. We talked while waiting on our meal. I liked their music and the fact that they were down to earth. I too, liked the line: If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me ?” Great pickup line.
