A svelte 3.2%.

We’re making bank now.
Toot Toot!
Uncle Sam giveth, homeowners insurance and property taxes taketh away….
Nice to see a little relief, but inflation has taken twice that amount away already.
A 10% raise would not keep up with this current inflation.

I will begin collecting soon turning 62 the end of this year.

Medicare monthly costs actually dropped a few $ which is surprising.

Huh? False statement?
About half the cost increases (for the past year) of most of the factors that eat up most peoples money; food, fuel, utilities, services & interest rates on everything from vehicles, to housing.

People depending on SS for a significant portion of their existence are getting it in the azz, dry, just like everyone else.

Gotta love those Bidenomics & how they do their math.....................old adage about liars figuring or something like that, eh?

MM
Any raise no matter how insignificant puts them in a good light, even if they are the cause of the situation we are in.

Ours went up by $1200. Along with property taxes as well. This always seems to happen when there is a democRAT in the Whitehouse and the congress is dominated by the democRATS. Most of us remember Jimmy Carter. We have seen this before.

A quick poking of my calc app revealed that the raise will fall somewhat short of what’s needed to cover the tax and insurance increase. Two steps forward and three steps back….

Not complaining, as I have enough and to spare. Feel bad for folks living on the ragged edge that may have to switch to generic cat food in their tuna-noodle casseroles.

Wow! That will help offset the 100% increase in fuel prices we've experienced over the past two years.

That 3.2% should about cover the teensiest bit of inflation between now and January.

I say they need to make the increase match the interest rates on a national level.

If credit card interest rates were factored in, you might have steak a night or two a month... grin

But in the big picture of things, 3.2% in this economy isn't even throwing the dog a bone.

You really don’t have to work so hard trying to be the stupid bastard that you are.

Just relax and it’ll flow easily from you.
SS isn’t even considered in my retirement plans. I’m sure it’ll be gone or at least means tested by the time I’m eligible. I’m self employed so it really pisses me off that the government steals 15% of my gross income right off the top, no iffs ands or buts.
I'm way to poor to draw social security, even though I'm of age.

It was never a part of mine either, but I'll take it and take it as early as I can. My wife will hit 62 next year and she will take it as well.

I doubt that it will ever be gone outright or even means tested. It’s a government program. The government loves government programs, especially ones that allow them to control the money of private citizens. Why would they ever give that up?

More likely IMO the government will continue to do what they did this year. “Give” a tiny raise that does next to nothing to keep up with real inflation and expect the people to be grateful to government as the government steals from them via inflation.
Inflation ticks upward to 3.7% as the Fed's fight to tame high consumer prices rolls on

There’s already a de facto means testing presently in force. It’s tied to your AGI. Over a certain amount and your monthly benefit is reduced.

It got me.
I heard on the radio today that SNAP is receiving a substantial increase also. I believe it was more that SS 3.2%!!
Lucky for the Gov inflation numbers don't include energy and food.........

I just looked it up, yup 12.5% increase for SNAP with higher incomes becoming eligible. Can't make this crap up! 12.5% vs 3.2%

Only the stupid don't realize the same thing happened to wage slaves like me. It is a fiction that the employer pays half, it is figured into the compensation cost for a worker.

Well the govt just raised Medicare costs by $10/month for the basic package.

Last year’s reduction didn’t last too long.

I didn't consider SS either in my retirement plans--and have been self-employed for 40 years, as has Eileen. So yeah, had to pay 15%--and did better with other investments as we got older.

But the SS income we get ain't bad, and am reasonably happy with it, especially since it partially came about from the years when we didn't have enough extra income to invest to anywhere near the same extent we have in the past 30 years.

Funny, my wife quit working at age 28 (she will be 62 next year) as a $50k a year paralegal. SS statements suggest $900/month when she hits 62. She was stunned.
Well.....whoop-de-doo! I did the math and looks like I will get about a $61/month raise. In "high cotton" in January! Of course, that is before taxes on the money that I've already paid taxes on.

Medicare monthly costs to recipients can now increase based upon AGI.

Last year the COLA was +8.7%, this coming year is to be +3.2%. If IIRC there have been several years when the COLA was 2% or less. My bride and I put our share into the pot for 50 plus years. Our increase this coming year will be about $130/mo total. SSA has been a scam since FDR signed the papers, why would our benevolent government not carry on with it?

My inlaws figured SSA was their retirement and didn't have a pot to piss in. We have a pot but it has sprung a leak the last 2 1/2 + years. Hope is we will run out of air before the pot runs dry.

Luckily for me Toot my cogitative skills are plenty acute to rat out a fraud such as yourself. Carry on and post some more stupid headlines you parrot . . . you know the stuff everybody else is already aware of. LOL
SS was never meant to be one's total retirement package, and its COLA increases was never meant to match wage increases. AS inflation has little to do with existing mortgages, auto loans, and some other loans. Too many think the opposite, just isn't true!

Ego has nothing to do with this question, again, I aim to keep things dumbed down for you.
