Watched Greyhound with Tom Hanks Friday night for the second time, really great movie.

Is this an attempt at humor?
Yeah, Tom Hanks a true American Patriot.
This movie is absolute fugking trash.
Hollywierd sucks, period.
another really good movie is Child 44, based on Tom Rob Smith's novel. Live in a soviet paradise back in 1953

Neither Tom Hanks, born in 1956, and his bud, Steven Spielberg, born in 1946, served in the military. Hanks was too young for Vietnam and the draft was abolished before he was called, , but Spielberg somehow avoided being drafted. How he did that I do not know.

But I think they both like to project themselves as "military heroes," given the roles Hanks plays in various war movies, and the war movies Spielberg writes, produces, and directs. That's not unknown in Hollywood.

Just my opinion.

Evil NAZIs managed to kill the token black man in the movie.

How Steven Spielberg used therapy to avoid being drafted into the Vietnam War

Quote
Steven Spielberg has revealed how the only time he ever sought therapy was so he couldn't be drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War. ...

Quote
... Speaking on the Smartless podcast, hosted by actors Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes, he said: "This [The Fabelmans] was $40m of therapy. Having never been in therapy except one time to try to get out of the Army when I was 18 years old."

Quote
... Speaking with Peter Travers for Rolling Stone magazine in May 2007, Spielberg said he had two obsessions while studying at California State University Long Beach – making movies and getting good grades so he didn't have to join the US Army and head to the Vietnam War.

He said: "My immediate political activity was based on self-preservation.

"I had a draft counselor. I legally did what I could to not go.

"But if I had to go, I would have gone. That's the truth."

Recognizing his son's desire to not join the US Army and instead pursue his true passion of filmmaking, Arnold suggested Steven visit his own psychiatrist in the hope that he would recommend Steven not be fit for service.

The director said: "I saw him about five times and then he was actually pro the Vietnam War and wouldn't write me the letter.

"That was the last time I actually was in therapy."...

project themselves as "military heroes?

I think it's more to the fact that they respect the U.S. military and the sacrifices of U.S. servicemen and women.

They wouldn't have bothered to tell the story of Maj. Dick Winters and the Band of Brothers. Simply let it be a book somewhere.
Greyhound was filmed on my dad's ship. The non-CGI stuff was filmed on the USS KIDD DD661 which is moored at Baton Rouge and is one of the very few surviving Fletcher class destroyers. DD661 KIDD was also in Run Silent Run Deep. USS KIDD DDG100 was in one of the Transformers movies.
