Nearly a month ago, this earless woolly mammoth looking boar started coming around looking for girlfriends.



He found some a couple nights ago.





Was going to sit in my pig blind and wait for them, but they beat me to it, and I had to stalk around with my shooting sticks, staying downwind. Set up and shot him at a bit past 100 yards.

Yep. No ears atall! One bottom cutter was broken off. Top tusks were bad to the bone long.



I hung him and weighed him this morning.

What is your guess? How much does he weigh, ungutted, hanging there?

I've been hunting with my Diamondback DB10 .308 for years now. Love it! It's all I hunt with, pretty much.

I have another upper for it as well. I have a scoped upper for daytime hunting with a conventional scope. Then I have a thermal scope on another upper for night hunting.

Takes just a minute to swap uppers and go. Both uppers are at least MOA. Probably 5 years I've used that rifle. By far my favorite!

I'm guessing that is a 720lb feeder. To give some perspective to size.

I do a similar thing with a POF Revolution in .308 even though the conventional scope is in a Larue mount and the thermal also has a QR mount and they easily and reliably return to zero, I hate to mess with anything once it's been sighted in.

I do use a suppressed .260rem bolt gun for most whitetail hunting though.

OK...this would explain why my guess of 270 was wrong. All the hogs I shoot have two ears, and the ears usually add 60+ pounds to the total weight. Just ask me..I shoot a BUNCH of hogs over #200 Honest...


However I'll be the first to admit I'm the only hog hunter in Texas ( native or non-native) who hasn't killed a 450 lb hog. It seems EVERYBODY i talk to has...

I kill 50-75 a year. I have only ever killed 2 over 300. One this spring was 314.5, that is the biggest one I have ever weighed. The other was bigger than by a bit, but by how much I don't know. For sure it did not scare 400 (nowhere close), and probably not 350 either. That one was 5 years ago down by Ozona. I have killed a dozen or so between 250 and 285. I carry scales and weigh everything I can. I have had quite a few fool me, both ways.

If I had seen this thread in time I probably would have guessed Barry's around 220-225. Those missing ears really throw it off and make it strange to look at.
