I always wondered the cause for their demise was it they lacked talent to come up with another song or album, issues with band members, sudden success going to their heads, or perhaps they see what a cesspool Hollywood is and decided they want nothing to do with it.

Never had a hit in the top 40

Posted By: kenjs1 Re: One hit wonder bands - 02/05/24
ok- I am thinking most don't qualify.

The Romantics also had a hit with that one that goes " I hear.....the secrets that you keep......when you're talking in your sleep."

Sugarloaf had an even bigger hit with "Green-eyed lady".

April Wine had more than just one hit. Roller. Just Between You and Me. I Like to Rock. Good band.

Some 70 OhW I can think of....Lee Michaels - You know What I mean ( Been 14 days since I don't know when.....I just saw her with my best friend do you know what I mean.)

What About Ace- How Long has this Been Going On.

Player- Baby Come Back

and Thankfully David Soul with only one but it is the shmarmiest kryptonite of all time - Don't Give Up on Us baby........arghhhhhhh

A lot of different reasons I believe. Read about the history of the Grass Roots. The music also has to fit the times. Alan
Posted By: kenjs1 Re: One hit wonder bands - 02/05/24
Tommy Tutone had two hits although the second was kind of minor.

Trying to remember the name....but had the line spoken what sounded like into a phone if I remember "...I heard that your daddy died. Six stories was a long way to fall".

Cheap Date ?

tdbob- yep nailing it. I remember some moms being upset with SVB lyrics.

Pilot - isn't that now the Ozempic song? And what exactly was 96 tears referencing..... according to some ? lol

The Tokens "The lion Sleeps at Night". They had a lot of legal troubles over the vocals I think.

I don’t believe Journey did either. The music industry sucks about as bad as government.

This group only had one hit in the US but they're well known in RSA. One of my favorite songs.

Yes they did.

Journey achieved their first top 20 single in 1979, while the band’s sixth album, Departure (1980), charted at number eight. The early ’80s saw the band peak their popularity, earning a number-one album, Escape, in 1981 and many successful singles.

The Aces were not a One Hit Wonder, they were classic and all of their albums were hits, not number one, but hits.

Aces Singer Song writer Russell Smith, however had several number one hits done by others.

Best Band ever in my opinion and that of many I have turned on the them.

Around 1986 or so the group The Outfield had one , but I don’t remember the name of the song.

Sophomore slump, you have you a bunch of life and experiences to write that first album. And then you have to come up with some thing fresh? Very few can do it.

With the exception of her lone tuffy, “Thunder and Lightning,” Chi’s LP featured only hum drum hoofers. The package did place modestly on Billboard’s top pop albums chart (#148, 1972), and “Thunder” rumbled the airwaves, but lightning did not strike twice for Chi. A second album, Let It Ride and follow up 45s like “Go Like Elijah,” “You Were My Friend,” and “Who Ever Told You” sank from sight as if with nary a spin.

Two from my neighborhood:

Bo used to practice in a farm house that was about a 1/4 mile from our house. Mom would hear the sound coming through the trees and call the cops. It's sad. The Heywoods were a great band, and this piece of schlock is all they're known for.

This song was being played around the north side of Cincinnati well before it became a hit. Ram Jam had its roots here.

Here's another from the northside of Cincinnati-- well, just up the road in Oxford anyway:

One of our English teachers at our high school was an early hanger-on with the band. My girlfriend had a crush on him.

You can't play this one today. "Abbo" is whitey slang for Aborigine, and is now considered a derogatory racist term.

The Buggles - Ironically (?) this was the very first video ever played on MTV when it first hit the airwaves. On a side note, Hans Zimmer is the guy on the keyboards, dressed in black, near the end of the video. Check out his Hollywood credits. He definitely was not a one-hit-wonder.
