I don't think I could do that. Too creepy. I'd rather just remember my dogs the way they were alive.
Nope, I just bury them and move on

I have a big old arthritic horse that happens to have a beautiful hide. He's always been a sonuvabitch(alpha) and I'd love to have him butchered and also rugged out.

And Dale is glad she outlived Roy...
The difference between mounting game animals and dogs is love.
I just recently burried two longtime pals about a month apart.
Yeah...I cried both times

People can be pretty easy to hate. But, dogs are so easy to love. Yea, I have a couple who are buried in the yard as well.

kwg
I usually have to shoot them AND bury them.

Never a fun day.

Except for the one day that it was my Inlaws Puggle.
That was a pretty good day. I even had a post hole auger on the back of a tractor already. Easy peasy
Left them in the woods for the critters, buried themin lot or yard (bear dug up one), cremated the last two (Wife's idea - the woods or ground is good enough for me and them!.)

Cried over every one.
Pets no, ex girlfriends Yes !!!

It's hard but worth it.

We currently have 4 rezdog rescues living inside our little house. Other than the crap all over the backyard we love it.
I have a friend that wants to mount his longhaired dachshund when she dies.

If you have the money I give not a single fûck.

But the whole "fur baby" "I'm their mom/dad" schtick is gross.

I love my dogs, and am more attached than I should be. But damn, it's repugnant to attach familial titles to pets.

Mounting pets, especially dogs that you loved, is so F'ing weird and creepy.

What are you gonna do, put a pull string in it's back to control the tongue so it can lick your face with artificial dog spit?
This...true story

Had a Chocolate Lab...

Died on his own at around 14 YO

Had 'Jack' above Retriever at the same time..they were buds

Took the Lab to some high desert Cedar/Pinion country...buried him...deep

Six months later...Took wife & 'Jack' to gravesite

Damm

Jack started diggin at the Lab's grave site......

Jack luved the snow

Yep. Had a secretary who had her yip yap dog mounted after it died. Perfectly believable if you ever knew her.

Same here. I wouldn’t spend 10k on a vet to save one.
Love mine, but at the end of the day they’re C an animal.

That chocolate lab has a twin brother I had to put down almost 2 years ago..........thats the same look that Dutch would give me......the look of devotion.

Gorgeous pic of your friend.
I think mounting pets is reserved for crazy bitches...

I've buried all five of mine outside my bedroom window.

If someone adds on to the house after I'm gone they'll probably call the cops with all the bones they'll find, lol.
My wife did a few early in her career (late 90's) but yeah to creepy. She refused when asked after that. We are big dog owners and she changed her mind real quick. Money wasn't worth it

I'm 100% positive you're right!
I've heard of that being done but I think it's kinda creepy.

I knew a guy once who was convinced we'd be able to be revived after death through future advances in science if we only preserved our body so that it could be available for the "restoration." He planned to have his body frozen after death so that he could be revived through some future cryogenic technology yet to be discovered.

He's still alive as far as I know but his beloved Dalmatian's head is in the freezer. He wanted to enjoy that second life with his pal Spot. I don't know if he figured he'd have to wait a bit longer for the technology to regenerate Spot's body, but I guess he needed the extra freezer space.

For anyone who thinks dogs don't know what is going on... frown

This is how I found him for a about a week when I would come home from work. After that, he just slept by her fresh grave at night in the summer.

One coyote that I know of, came too close during that time. It was ripped to shreds.

Can someone quote this and show Tikka since he has me on ignore?

Yep.

That's absolutely insane, IMO.
Don't do taxi stuff but have talked that subject with a few. Most won't until one throws ridiculous money. Most also say people are so familiar with their dogs that it's damn near impossible to produce an acceptable mount.

Is he branded? He would make a hell of a pair of chaps. Probably as nice as elk hide, and I really like elk hide chaps.

Uncle had a pair made from an old bull with the brand right there on the front of his right thigh.

No.

They get a place of honor buried at camp.

Besides - Chuck Testa won't do it and he gets all my work.
Too creepy for me. My vet put my last dog to sleep at 12 1/2 yrs. old. Some kind of anal tumors that would have killed her very slowly & painfully. I told the vet to let me know when it's time to do it. Had a pre-paid cremation deal and when the time came I was cradling her head in my arms when she peacefully went to sleep. Got the ashes now and I think I'll get cremated when my time comes and they can throw her ashes in with mine.

^ this 100%.

Dogs is family. I wouldnt stuff family either.
We were watching one of those house shows or something and someone told had had a small house dog freeze dried. It looked life like, but Penny and I both thought it was pretty tacky.
I sure wouldn’t do it.
Reon
Only if they're movie stars.

I had calls when I was in the business. I would NEVER do that. You cannot recreate the animals persona etc.... Maybe the wrong word, but all it will be is a stuffed canine. Not your old pet. No way I would do that.

I've seen a few too unfortunately and none were done very well either.
I have had GSP's that I loved more than most people. No way I would disgrace them in that manner.
I hear they mount pets and farm animals all the time down South. Cousins and siblings too.

Creepy. Would you do that with your mom or dad?
We have planted a tree over their grave on the last two...

Red Dogwood over Cricket (she was a red dog).

Marsh grass over Judge (our Chessie that was "dead grass" color).

A persimmon over one of Laura's favorite cats...

That kinda thing.
Hah!

Skin ‘em out and hang that pretty Golden’s hide up on the wall. Maybe a nice throw for the couch.

😂

Buddy in high school had 3 past family dogs hides mounted to the wall in their home. Very strange family.

Cool picture of the rock, tikka. That is a neat formation.
Knew one taxidermist who refused to mount deceased pets.
Knew another one who welcomed the business. 😖

I'm 73 years old. I've lost a LOT of very dear, beloved pets.
As much as I loved them and missed them, I DO NOT want to step in the house and have "Rover" tug at my heart strings....AGAIN! One heartbreak is enough!

....nor would I want to have my parents or grandparents "mounted"!
Several years ago I hunted with a guy that did pet taxidermy as his main job, and he had lots of business.
Momma has two cats and a pet door. They come and go as they please. I often threaten to turn the two of them into mittens. When she sees them bring a big fat vole in from outside, she almost agrees.

Is that the same?
