Interesting. Thanks for posting.
You're welcome.
So you can carry a handgun designed to only shoot rubber bullets.

PS I remember back in the late 1970s there was an article in Gun Digest about gun ownership in the Soviet Union. The gist was that if you were a person with a good reputation from the perspective of the communist government, and had no criminal record, you could personally own typical hunting rifles and shotguns.

I had a very anti-gun college professor. I chose gun control as my research paper topic, and cited that article, stating that even the Soviet Union permitted personal ownership of firearms, yet the gun banners in the United States want to outlaw private gun ownership.

I got a poor grade, loaded with negative comments from the teacher scribbled all over it.

With the huge land mass, relatively few people, some guns, sounds like a sportsmans paradise.

Several interesting points. You begin by being allowed to have a shotgun, then, if you behave yourself you can have a certain rifle, and so on. Almost no handguns. Then there is the rubber bullet thing. Also, a couple of crimes and you lose gun rights for life. Like I said, interesting, but nothing we want to emulate. However, the crime thing, if violent, might be worth considering. The best predictor of violent behavior is previous violence.

You probably knew that would happen going in, but you didn't let the bastard control your expressions. Good on you for that.
.
Interesting, but too bad that the pony-tailed "expat" was such a twat.
Handling guns like a child.

I wouldn’t want to emulate it but I get the feeling that in some countries the constant agitation for MORE and STRICTER gun laws is not a thing like it is here.

I hunted and fished a lot in Russia. It is a sportsmen paradise. Incredible fishing in the Far East on NW Russia. I had no issues borrowing buddies firearms. Just needed to purchase a hunting license. Their laws are less restrictive than in many states here now in America. Its funny when the confused Fox News boomers chime in about commies in Russia banning firearms as they are clueless .
Who'd have ever guessed that referring the the USSR as "Russia" so carelessly for so long would result in such acrimonious rhetoric directed at Russia 35 years after the demise of the Soviet Union?

We use language too carelessly and it appears that there really IS a price for not preserving it and using it with precision.

You didn't think an authoritarian dictator like Putin would just allow open gun ownership now did you?

They were merged then. Russia never stopped existing. It just became the core of the Soviet Union.

Faux news is always clueless with all those closet commies.

If you think Russia has strict gun laws, just wait until you see what the Ukraine ends up with after Russia wins this war.
They will get the gun laws they deserve.
It is interesting. She is proficient in english. I wonder how many Russian citizens are english speaking. Gun ownership there is pretty much a privilege instead of a rite it seems. Sometimes I wonder if we wouldn't benefit from a lot of people having to learn more about the firearms they own and shoot. I'm glad to be here but I do think Russia has been given a bad rap because of past rulers and I'm not sure that given the chance our government wouldn't mimic Stalin's if things work out as planned by Washington elite.
