Dhillonbuck;
Good morning once more, thanks for the reply.
We see some Mac saws here in the BC Interior, but I want to say they were more popular out at the coast perhaps as there seems to be more out there and on Vancouver Island.
My first saw was a Canadian made Pioneer, but Electrolux bought them up shortly after, shut the factory down and parts became unobtanium.
After that an '82?? Husky 61 came along, the ones that were white and orange for a couple years and it ran perfectly even when I sold it.
For reasons that aren't entirely clear to me anymore, I wanted a bigger saw and a friend found a year old 372XPG for me in 2006 I think it was. It's been a great saw, though it does use more gas than the 61 and can be a tad temperamental starting up above 4500' when it's hot and it's hot out.
Even though we're in BC, our trees aren't as big as at the coast and honestly the tree above is about as big as I want to fight with anymore - the bar is 24" for scale.
The little Stihl MS170 came along about 8 years back when I needed a limbing saw for a weekend project at our place and a buddy's where we rented a bucket truck together to take down about 15 Ponderosa pines at his place and another half dozen at ours.
Our eldest daughter was working at the local saw shop then, which sell Husky and Stihl. When she told them what I was looking for, they suggested/offered the little MS170 at a screaming deal to me, saying it'd be a better saw over the long run than the consumer grade smaller Husky saws.
That all might have changed now, I'm not sure.
That MS170 is made in the USA by the way and while I don't use it a whole lot, it's really easy starting and runs like a top whenever and wherever.
For me it's parts availability that was the biggest reason to go with either Stihl or Husky, as there are good saw shops north and south of us that service and supply for them both.
Best to you all this weekend.
Dwayne
